This morning, chef Alberto Chicote, accompanied by the delegate of Culture, Tourism, and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, delivered the traditional carnival proclamation at Madrid Río. Chicote highlighted the chefs’ ability to «disguise food» and, like in carnival, «have fun and surprise with food.» Following his speech, the Cultural Association Iérbola performed a chirigota created for the occasion, praising the virtues of Madrid’s cuisine. Attendees enjoyed the artist and DJ Rev Silver and his carnival sounds.
Later on, the carnival parade took place, organized by the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Sport, which traveled along Madrid Río from Puente de Toledo to Explanada Negra. Over 15 companies and associations filled the morning with magic, joy, and diversity, offering an exciting journey through various artistic and cultural expressions.
The city’s multicultural spirit was reflected in the folkloric and neighborhood associations, who, with their dances, traditional costumes, and live bands, transported attendees to the carnivals of Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay, among other countries. The parade also featured the participation of companies such as Titiritantes Todozancos, Ángeles de Trapo, Poesía Rodante, Alicia Maravillas, and the Centro del Títere school.
Tomorrow, Sunday, starting at 11:00 a.m., the popular tossing of «peleles» to the tune of traditional Madrid carnival songs and dances will begin. From 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., there will be a meeting of «murgas» and «chirigotas,» where the ten participating associations will unleash irony and humor through their satirical songs and performances. /
