Actividades gratuitas del Día de la Tortilla en Torrejón de Ardoz, 2 de febrero

On Sunday, February 2nd, the free activities organized by the Municipal Council to celebrate one of the most rooted and delicious traditions of Torrejon, the Tortilla Day, will take place at the fairground. There will be a free distribution of this typical dish and dessert, along with a varied program including a tortilla contest, an exhibition by the local police canine group in Torrejón de Ardoz, at Bullring or The Tortilla Train, among other initiatives.

Torrejón de Ardoz, January 31, 2025. To promote this festive atmosphere, a series of activities for the whole family have been prepared by the Municipal Council, with a special focus on children. There will be a children’s area, Globexia, shooting goals, firefighters, parade, dance, chess, and a new exhibition of the local police canine unit in Torrejón de Ardoz at Bulling, starting at 11:30, for fun.

Even if you don’t feel like cooking that day, starting at 1:00 p.m., there will be a free distribution of tortilla and dessert, with thousands of servings and a free apron giveaway.

For the little ones, from 11:00 to 19:00, the Tortilla Train will be running, and at the same time, there will be a children’s area with inflatable castles, mini karts, mini golf, and workshops for kids.

«On the first Sunday of February, we celebrate the activities organized by the Municipal Council to mark this date as Torrejonera, like Tortilla Day. A celebration that serves as an excuse to gather with family and friends around a tortilla and, of course, with the rest of the food they want to prepare, as many Torrejoneros specialize in preparing picnics that turn into authentic feasts,» recalled the mayor, Alejandro Navarro Prieto.

«Whether in sandwiches, with or without onions, the truth is that Tortilla Day is a deeply rooted holiday in our habits and the coincidence of activities organized by the Municipal Council on the weekend,» explained the councilor for equality and holidays, María Eugenia Gil.

The mayor added that «it’s important not to lose the spirit of these holidays: to enjoy a succulent tortilla, have fun, and come together as Torrejoneros. Additionally, we respect the plenary agreement of the Municipal Council from July 5, 2017, to promote this tradition proposed by citizens and approved by both sides, PP and PSOE.»

In the tortilla competition, all residents over 16 years old can participate. Here is a summary of the participation standards:

• Registration will be from 12:30 to 14:30.
• The jury will award prizes of 200, 100, and 75 euros. The prizes will be given out at 3:30 pm on stage.
• To compete, the presentation of a tortilla and its written recipe will be required between 12:30 and 14:30.
• It will be essential for the tortillas to have basic ingredients and potatoes. The originality of the tortilla will be appreciated in terms of ingredients, flavor, and presentation.
• The jury will consist of a Municipal Council technician, a representative from the Hostal de Torrejón Group, and a resident of Torrejón de Ardoz. The winners will be announced on stage at 15:00.

The mayor advised, «as always, we recommend using public transportation, but those using private vehicles can park at the fairgrounds themselves,» concluding with the acknowledgment of «the collaboration of all entities participating in the programming of the activities, because without them, there would be no fun on Tortilla Day.»
