La tradición de los ramilletes florales regresa a Madrid por San Isidro

Taller de ramilletes de flores organizado en la plazuela de Santiago

The delegate of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, accompanied by the councilor of Centro, Carlos Segura, participated today in one of the sessions of the flower bouquet workshop organized in the plazuela de Santiago as part of the activities programmed by the Madrid City Council to celebrate the San Isidro Festival.

Rivera de la Cruz highlighted that this is «a very appealing initiative that allows us to learn about the traditions and history of Madrid» and emphasized the importance of «Madrid residents knowing the tradition of the plant species that surrounded the San Isidro festivities from their beginnings.» She also recalled that «the very word ‘verbena’ comes from the flower bouquet that was already associated with that celebration.»

This workshop, of a theoretical-practical nature, allowed participants to learn how to make bouquets with traditional species of May such as lilacs, peonies, or daisies, while delving into the history and symbolism of pilgrimages, processions, and floral offerings dedicated to San Isidro.

Each session had 40 participants, confirming the public’s interest in the traditional customs. A similar reception was given to the chotis workshop held from May 5 to 7 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, which brought together a total of 720 people.
