Crystal of the Cibeles Palace Gallery welcomes the winners of the Laureus World Sports 2025 award on April 21st, the most prestigious sports awards that recognize the best athletes and teams in 2024. It is the second consecutive year that Madrid hosts the gala for these Awards, known as the «Oscars of Sports», held in collaboration with the local council and the Madrid community and broadcasted worldwide.

These awards include «The Laureus»: the statue awarded to the winner of each of the seven elite categories, and the award voted on by the 69 legends of the Sport Laureus World Sports Academy, the Laureus Sport for Good Award, which recognizes an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to transforming the lives of children and youth through sports. The finalists will be announced, along with other nominees, on March 3rd.

In addition to the award ceremony, Laureus will use its return to Madrid to showcase the social impact from the previous year on the youth in Madrid.

Following the success of last year’s edition, Laureus returns to the capital at a time when sports play a crucial role in Madrid’s appeal as a destination: being home to five football clubs from Liga and Open Madrid Tennis, as well as the Madrid Open tennis tournament, and hosting the final stage of La Vuelta. This year, the city will host the first regular-season NFL game in Spain. In 2026, Madrid will also welcome Formula 1 with the Spanish Grand Prix taking place on a new urban circuit.

In the previous edition, the Laureus Awards honored Novak Djokovic and Aitana Bonmatí as the male and female athletes of the year, and the Spanish women’s football team. They also recognized Bellingham County as the Breakthrough Athlete, Simone Biles for Comeback of the Year, and Groot for Best Parasport Athlete, while Arisa Trew won the Action Athlete Award. The Laureus Sport For Good Award acknowledged the Rafa Nadal Foundation for its work in improving the world through sports.
