The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Esther de Andrés, announced on Wednesday that the Zulema Sociocultural Center will host the Municipal Adult School once the renovations are completed.
De Andrés explained, “In this way, the demands of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Adult School will be met by relocating all students to the ground floor of the sociocultural center once the rehabilitation works are finished.”
The Municipal Adult School offers Basic Education and Coexistence Plan teachings, Personal Development and Participation Training, Open Teachings, Free Exams, and Seminars to about 1,400 students each school year, with an average age of 65 years, located in different buildings throughout the city.
De Andrés further elaborated that this move will bring together all groups of students from this School currently spread across various centers in Alcalá, such as the Pablo Picasso school, the District II Municipal Board, or the Historiador Portilla municipal building. “It is a beneficial change for both teachers and students, as all activities will be reorganized in the same space,” said the Participation Councilor, recalling that this school was previously located in this space before the first center renovation.
De Andrés added that the comprehensive rehabilitation works at the Zulema Sociocultural Center in Alcalá de Henares are currently ongoing, with the main goal being energy rehabilitation while also improving other conditions to enhance the building’s habitability and usability.
Facility Improvements
The project, funded with 1.8 million euros from European NextGenerationEU funds, includes improvements in thermal envelope insulation, efficiency enhancement of heating, cooling, and DHW generators, interior and exterior lighting renovation, energy generation through solar photovoltaic technology, electrical installation adaptation, and accessibility improvements.
During the rehabilitation works commencement, all associations sharing this space were relocated to different public spaces in the city. Once these works are completed, associations wishing to conduct activities or meetings at Zulema can request a space on two floors of the building, leaving the entire ground floor exclusively for the Municipal Adult School of the city.
“We believe this change is very beneficial for everyone. The Municipal Adult School does excellent work in our city and deserves a better space. They have been requesting it for many years, and finally, it will become a reality,” she concluded.
