El Ayuntamiento destaca en los Premios Diversa 2025

Inma Sanz, Madrid’s deputy mayor, and José Fernández, delegate for Social Policies, Family, and Equality, took part on Friday in the Diversa Awards ceremony, organized by Diversa Global association. In its ninth edition, these awards honored the contribution of institutions, companies, and prominent figures in raising awareness and advocating for LGTBI diversity. For the second consecutive year, the City Council sponsored one of the awards, the ‘Diversa City of Madrid 2025 Award’.

This year, the award went to the 26 de Diciembre Foundation, a non-profit organization working since 2010 to enhance the visibility and quality of life of older LGTBI individuals. Specifically, the association manages health, socio-educational, and awareness resources aimed at this population. Additionally, it provides psychosocial support to LGTBI individuals over 65 years old to enhance their autonomy and promote the recognition of their dignity and inclusion from an intergenerational perspective.

LGTBI Policy 365 Days a Year

The ‘Diversa City of Madrid 2025 Award’ is an initiative that aligns with the City Council’s unwavering commitment to defend and promote the rights of LGTBI individuals and eradicate any form of violence against them. In this regard, the Department of Social Policies, Family, and Equality promotes a genuine LGTBI policy 365 days a year with specific actions, such as launching a campaign in 2024 to raise awareness about the reality of older LGTBI individuals.

In 2025, the City Council has compiled a guide listing specific resources for LGBTI individuals in the city. Additionally, in the coming days, it will unveil a more recognizable image of the rainbow points installed at events and festivals since 2023 to raise awareness against LGTBIfobia and provide support to potential victims. Also, this year, the Council plans to grant €665,000 in direct grants and competitive grants to LGTBI projects.

Furthermore, since 2022, the City Council has had a municipal service providing legal and psychological support to victims of LGTBIfobic attacks and offers companies guidance in developing diversity plans. These initiatives complement the work of the Municipal Observatory against LGTBIfobia, a participatory body continually measuring the impact of violence and discrimination on LGTBI individuals in the city.
