La Audiencia Provincial de Madrid begins the trial this Monday for the fatal hit-and-run that left four dead and nine seriously injured on November 6, 2022, during a wedding celebration in Torrejón de Ardoz.
The incident occurred at 2:44 am outside the restaurant ‘El Rancho’, located at number 6 on Constitution Avenue, where a gypsy wedding with over 200 guests was taking place.
A significant security presence is expected to prevent altercations, as the trial will pit two clans against each other. Additionally, the trial will feature nearly 50 witnesses and around 30 national police officers.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a sentence of 226 years in prison for four counts of murder (25 years for each) and nine counts of attempted murder (14 years for each).
The indictment states that in the early hours of November 6, 2022, M. D. M., known as ‘El Portugués’, attended a wedding at the ‘El Rancho’ restaurant in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) with two of his minor children and two nephews.
During the celebration, one of the minors was involved in an incident with one of the guests, leading to the accused being asked to leave the venue along with his companions.
It was then that M. D. M. confronted several of those present, and once outside the establishment, he headed with his children and nephews to his parked vehicle nearby.
After getting behind the wheel, he accelerated the engine «knowing that people were gathered there due to the events and with the full intention of causing their death or assuming the possibility that it would happen,» hitting several of them, resulting in the deaths of four individuals: I. M. S., C. R. B., J. M. R. V., and C. B. S.
Surviving the impact but sustaining injuries were D. M. R. and C. R. N. who were with one of the deceased victims (I. M. S.). Additionally, Á. J. B., F. R. B., and M. del C. N. were with C. B. S. and also suffered injuries.
Others who were hit and injured were A. J. S., D. J. S., V. P. B., and J. A. J. B., who tried to get the accused to stop the vehicle, but he ignored them.
The accused’s vehicle, who has been in custody since November 6, 2022, did not have liability insurance on that date.
