The neighborhood of Las Matas celebrates from today until Sunday, May 4, the Festivities in honor of its patron, San José Obrero. The celebrations will officially begin this evening at 8:00 p.m. when, after the reading of the Proclamation in the municipal marquee, by the San José de Las Matas school, on its 50th anniversary, the traditional chupinazo will sound, and the coronation of the Kings and Queens will take place, who will parade through the main streets of the neighborhood on the float parade.
The program prepared by the Las Rozas City Council, through the Festivities department, offers proposals for all tastes and ages. In the bullfighting section, there will be morning bull runs, followed by the release of heifers; a bullfight with picadors will be held (May 1) and another without picadors (May 2), as well as a cutting contest (May 3).
Tomorrow, May 1, the feast day of San José Obrero, will begin with the bull run and release of heifers. Subsequently, the image of the saint will be carried in procession through the neighborhood after the celebration of a solemn mass at 12:30 p.m. On that day, the Peña Er Kite will be in charge of organizing the popular lunch and the vermouth dance, and then you can taste the great popular paella of the Peña La Unión at 2:30 p.m.
On Friday, May 2, a public holiday throughout the Community of Madrid, the bull run and release of heifers will begin, as well as the popular lunch of the Peña Quitamanías. From 11 a.m., the Tren Rodado will be available, which, with the collaboration of AFEMAT, will depart from the arcades of 1º de Mayo Park. Peña Quitamanías will organize the vermouth dance at 1:30 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m., a popular meal is scheduled in the square of the Cultural Center.
Children’s Day
Saturday, May 3, will be Children’s Day at the Las Matas Festivities. After the bull run and release of heifers, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., you can visit the Spring Craft Market, which will be set up in the pergolas of 1º de Mayo Park. The little ones can enjoy the children’s bull run, traditional games, and chocolate with toast, organized by the San José Brotherhood, as well as a children’s performance in the municipal marquee, and a large children’s park in the afternoon at the 1º de Mayo sports court, among other activities.
The festival program will end on Sunday, May 4, when the large children’s park will reopen, in the morning and afternoon, at the 1º de Mayo sports court, and will close with the fraternity meal in the municipal marquee and the fireworks display at the Renfe neighborhood sports court at 10:00 p.m.
Free Concerts by Shaila Dúrcal and Ana Guerra
The festival program includes orchestra performances tonight and on Saturday; the concert by the Peñas and the group Copacabana.Indiepop, scheduled for tomorrow; and the Tribute 500 noches and the performance by the cover band Metropop, planned for Friday, May 2. But the highlights will be the free concerts by Shaila Dúrcal, tomorrow Thursday, and by Ana Guerra, on Saturday, both at 9:00 p.m. in the municipal marquee.

Feast of Our Lady of Retamar
Las Rozas also celebrates the Feast of its patron, Our Lady of Retamar, which will begin on Sunday with a solemn mass at the Church of San Miguel Arcángel at 11:00 a.m. and the procession of the Virgin of Retamar. On Monday, May 5, a public holiday in the municipality, the traditional pilgrimage will be held, taking the image of the Virgin to the hermitage that bears her name, in the Dehesa de Navalcarbón, where a mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Subsequently, popular games organized by local associations will begin, the popular paella will be prepared, scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and in the afternoon there will be activities such as Zumba, traditional games, a tortilla contest, or skewer distribution.

Las Rozas Cup and The Champions Burger
The Fairground hosts the Las Rozas Cup on Wednesday and Thursday, a children’s football tournament, male (F11) and female (F7), featuring the best teams from Madrid: Atlético de Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, Getafe, and Leganés, among others, as well as local and regional teams. Admission is free, and the matches will start tomorrow, Thursday, from 9:45 a.m.
Also at the Fairground, until May 11, The Champions Burger is being celebrated, an event that returns to Las Rozas after last year’s success. With free entry, 30 burger joints will compete to offer the best burger in Spain from their food trucks, so attendees can taste a wide variety of gourmet burgers, from the most classic to the most avant-garde and signature creations.
Each attendee can vote for their favorite burger by scanning a QR code found on all purchase tickets. The categories to be judged are Bun, Meat, Combination of ingredients, Presentation, and Originality. In addition to food, the event includes music and entertainment.
The Champions Burger is open from Monday to Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. (including May 1), and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
