Tres espacios vegetales culturales en Madrid este verano

The delegate of Urbanism, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, and the delegate of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, have presented this morning the three cultural vegetal spaces that will be activated this summer in Madrid thanks to the collaboration between municipal nurseries and different cultural centers in Madrid.

The initiative, which combines vegetation, culture, and sustainability, aims to improve the urban environment during the summer months through interventions in three spaces: the Círculo de Bellas Artes, CentroCentro, and Matadero Madrid. These actions, developed with plants from municipal nurseries, offer areas designed to mitigate the effects of heat and promote cultural consumption in spaces surrounded by nature.

During the presentation, Carabante stated that «this initiative represents a perfect proposal to spend the hottest hours in pleasant environments that allow us to enjoy reading or music surrounded by nature.» For her part, Rivera de la Cruz recalled that the proposal «joins the flamenco shows that will take place in different museums in the city during the hottest hours as part of the ‘Take Refuge in Culture’ program,» which «offers citizens and tourists cultural spaces in the face of high temperatures.»

Three spaces with their own identity

For the second consecutive year, the Círculo de Bellas Artes will host a vegetal installation within the climatic refuge that will open to the public from July 10 to September 7, from 11:00 to 21:00 hours. This intervention transforms the Circle into an urban oasis where nature and culture are integrated.

To the vegetal exuberance of last summer’s installation, this year adds a ‘siestódromo’: a set of sleeping areas and artifacts designed for rest. This space will also host activities that challenge the logic of hyperproductivity such as collective naps, community readings, or meetings that reclaim cooking as a form of resistance.

CentroCentro, on the other hand, will host a reading space in the Gloria Fuertes Room, a diaphanous room of approximately 90 m² located on the main floor of the building. This installation can be visited from today until August 24, during the usual opening hours of CentroCentro: from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 20:00 h (closed on Mondays). In addition to numerous plants of different types, the space has books to enjoy a reading time.

At Matadero Madrid, the ‘Intermediae’ program will transform the Nave Una into a ‘living room for the city’ until July 31. This space will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 21:00 h, with free entry until full capacity is reached. The proposal takes as a reference domestic spaces for meeting and rest, such as the living room or the dining room, to offer a welcoming environment where everyday cultural practices such as reading, listening to music, conversing, or simply being can take place.

Throughout the month, the space will host a program of cultural activities that includes concerts, listening sessions, performances, collective readings, and encounters linked to sustainability and care. Among the participants are artists and collectives such as Iván Sette, Marco Padiya, María Buey, Javier Rodríguez, Julián Galay, and Huda. /
