desafío

The final, held last Saturday, brought together 28 teams from 20 educational centers who presented their projects. Participants demonstrated their skills with virtual and augmented reality, 3D, programming, and robotics. The schools Bérriz, Logos, Vicente Aleixandre, and Fernando de los Ríos, as well as IES El Burgo-Ignacio Echeverría, were the winners in different categories. De la Uz stated, «This competition is a way to show that our educational community is very much alive and ready to face the future.»

On the previous Saturday, the Entremontes Sports Center in Las Rozas was filled with young talent, technology, and artificial intelligence at the final of the 7th edition of the Municipal Robotics Tournament Challenge Las Rozas. This initiative, promoted by the Las Rozas City Council through the Department of Economy, Innovation, and Employment, aims to motivate students from primary, secondary, and high school education in the municipality and awaken their curiosity about STEAM professions. It also encourages creative thinking, fosters the desire to create technological tools and projects, and provides a space to learn to work as a team and communicate their projects.

The event started at 9 in the morning as the 28 teams from 20 educational centers in Las Rozas arrived and went to their respective stands to showcase their STEAM projects that they had been working on during the school year. From 10 to 12:45, each group demonstrated the potential of their project in different challenges that make up the Las Rozas Challenge: Virtual Challenge, for projects based on Virtual or Augmented Reality; 3D Model Challenge, where they had to build a structure with three-dimensional elements; Programming and AI Challenge, where they had to demonstrate their knowledge in these areas by incorporating AI tools into the creation process of their projects; and Robot Challenge, which tested the capabilities of the robot they had built to transport ping pong balls.

The mayor of Las Rozas, José de la Uz, visited all participating schools at their stands during the morning, accompanied by the Councilor for Economy, Innovation, and Employment, Alba Monteiro. «The future is already here. And the best part is that it’s not just coming from Silicon Valley. It’s here in Las Rozas. It’s in you. In your 3D printed models, in the robots you’ve designed, in the virtual reality tools you’ve imagined, in the creative solutions of Artificial Intelligence you’ve proposed,» De la Uz pointed out during his speech.

After the presentations, while the jury deliberated, participants, teachers, and families enjoyed a motivational talk by Manuel Vaamonde. In it, the CEO of the FUNIVERSE Group explained how technology and AI are part of our daily lives, how they can be used to solve real problems, and how we can become creators of the future because «the best ideas are born while playing.»
