At an event with the absence of the Government delegate, without invitation, and without the director of the municipal body, on sick leave

MADRID, 27 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Valencian Police, the Patrulla Águila, and journalists Carlos Franganillo (representing the news services of Telecinco) or Juan Ramón Lucas, have been recognized by the Municipal Police of Madrid as part of the events for their patron saint, San Juan.

The Paseo de Coches del Retiro has once again been the setting for the grand day of the Municipal Police, presided over by the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, who did not extend an invitation to the Government delegate, Francisco Martín, who in ‘X’ lamented that «once again (the mayor) belittles Madrid, turning this celebration into a new display of sectarian exclusion.» The director of the Municipal Police, Pablo Enrique Rodríguez, who has been on sick leave since the police car he was traveling in on the day of the blackout was involved in a hit-and-run accident, also did not attend.

The mayor, accompanied by police officials, representatives of municipal groups, and the delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inma Sanz, reviewed the formation and presided over the presentation of recognitions, awards, and honors of the Municipal Police, including the Medals of the Body, the Crosses of Merit, and the Medals of Professional Merit.

MEDALS

The Medals of the Municipal Police, five this year, have been awarded to the municipal Public Health Laboratory of Madrid Salud, the Local Police of Valencia, the Patrulla Águila of the Spanish Air Force, the Confederation of Employers of Madrid (CEIM), and the Judiciary.

The Local Police of Valencia is celebrating its 155th anniversary this year and receives this recognition for their dedication and coordination during the emergency caused by the storm on October 29. The Patrulla Águila of the Spanish Air Force made its final flight in San Javier (Murcia) on June 15, closing 40 years of representation and service to Spain. In its four decades of existence, its CASA C-101 aircraft have completed 38,000 flight hours in over 500 exhibitions, 170 of which were outside of Spain.

The Public Health Laboratory is celebrating its 25th anniversary these days. It is responsible for analyzing the safety of food or water and collaborates with the Municipal Police in the analysis of narcotics confiscated on the street and samples taken from drivers in traffic stops.

Another Medal has been awarded to the Confederation of Employers of Madrid (CEIM) for representing more than 150 business associations, while the fifth recognition was given to the Judiciary for its continuous collaboration with the Municipal Police of Madrid, in general, and with its Main Police Judicial Station in particular.

PROFESSIONAL MERIT

In addition, 79 Medals of Professional Merit have been awarded to municipal police officers for difficult, risky interventions, or actions that have enhanced the image of the force, such as the ones received by several tutors at the Villa de Vallecas station who arrested a 56-year-old man harassing a 12-year-old girl.

Other examples include several police officers from the Latina station and another from Carabanchel for their investigation and intervention, in collaboration with the National Police, against drug trafficking on Cullera street, which resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of nearly half a kilo of cocaine, 1.5 kg of hashish, two marijuana plantations, and a sawed-off shotgun.

Another example is the Medal awarded to an officer from the Judicial Coordination Station who, upon being informed of the theft of belongings from 24 tourists on a bus, viewed images from nearby cameras, accessed a stolen mobile application to track the location of the thieves’ vehicle, and, with reinforcements, apprehended the four suspects, recovering over 15,000 euros and the stolen items.

Three officers from the Carabanchel station have also been honored for the investigation, tracking, and arrest of a man who sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl after tracking him on social media and establishing surveillance until he was apprehended.

Other examples include several members of the Tetuán station for their collaboration, along with Interpol, CNP, or Ameripol, in dismantling an international network of immigrant trafficking between the Dominican Republic and Spain, Operation Pana, through fraudulent use of identity documents and other forgeries, resulting in the arrest of 34 individuals in Madrid.

A sub-inspector and an officer from Villaverde have also been recognized for their quick response to a residence where a four-month-old baby was not breathing, swiftly transporting her to Hospital 12 de Octubre while performing resuscitation techniques. They successfully revived the baby, who was then taken care of by medical personnel.

CROSSES OF MERIT

Almeida has awarded 143 Crosses of Merit from the Municipal Police, 91 of them to municipal agents distinguished for their professional and human virtues in a period of ten or more years of uninterrupted service, and 52 to members of other Security Forces and Bodies, Armed Forces, and civilian personnel distinguished for their collaboration with the work of the Municipal Police.

Among the latter, several commanders and officers of the National Police, the Civil Guard, the UME, and the local police of Valencia, Massanassa, Paiporta, Algemesí, Catarroja, Sedaví, and Alfafar, as well as from other municipalities and cities such as Alcobendas, Zaragoza, and Barcelona have been recognized.

Also recognized was the Deputy Minister of Justice and Victims of the Community of Madrid, Carmen Martín, for her support in the development of the functions of the Judicial Police and her involvement in the implementation of the Police Office for Victim Protection at the Violence Against Women Courts on Albarracín Street.

Another Cross of Merit was awarded to the deputy prosecutor in charge of Road Safety at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for Road Safety, Miguel Espeja, for his close collaboration with the Traffic Police Judicial Station.

Several officials from different areas of the Madrid City Council (Protocol, Samur-Civil Protection, Firefighters, General Directorate of Public Road Conservation, School Sports, Gallur Municipal Sports Center, Prevention and Attention to Gender Violence, IAM) have been honored for their collaboration with the various police stations of the Municipal Police.

The ceremony, after paying tribute to deceased municipal police officers, concluded with the traditional parade of the units of the force, led by a section of the Central Security Station and including the Cavalry Squadron, the Music Band, the Gala Police Section, the Cornet of Orders, the Body’s Banner, and the K-9 Unit.

Also participating were members of the Honors Company and students from the 55th promotion, as well as the Cycling Section and mobile units, including motorcyclists from the Special Services Unit. This year, a dozen officers from the Valencia Local Police participated in the parade, following the recognition of this force with one of the Medals of the Municipal Police of Madrid.
