During the Mobility Forum held yesterday, Deputy Mayor Cristina Alcañiz reflects positively on the meeting and thanks the neighbors for their suggestions to continue improving Alcalá.
Alcalá de Henares, June 25, 2025.- The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Urban Planning, Cristina Alcañiz, chaired the Mobility Forum held on Tuesday at the District II Municipal Board, which was attended by representatives of political parties, neighborhood associations, and individual residents.
Key issues were addressed during the meeting, such as the implementation of the Low Emission Zone, on which Alcañiz explained that access will remain unrestricted except during specific episodes of high pollution that we hope will never occur. Additionally, advances in regulated parking were detailed, including doubling the number of spaces in new areas and considering zone changes for residents on streets bordering two zones.
One of the highlighted topics was the new bus station, whose final location will be the former Services Park. Alcañiz explained the technical, social, and environmental criteria that led to this choice, the expected investment by the Community of Madrid, and the urban development actions that the City Council will undertake to improve the surroundings.
Issues related to interurban mobility were also discussed, such as the upcoming launch of the first phase of the VAO Bus in the autumn, according to the Ministry of Transport, and the traffic disruptions caused by ADIF’s railway works. Alcañiz noted, «Service disruptions occurred in May, and as communicated by ADIF, they will happen again at the end of the year, although the specific impact and date are still unknown.»
Furthermore, the Deputy Mayor mentioned, «We have forwarded the neighbors’ proposal for ADIF to pave the streets surrounding the Avenida Daganzo bridge area, which have been damaged by the heavy vehicle traffic related to the works and the installation of sound barriers,» these neighborhood requests are awaiting a response from the public company.
Alcañiz concluded by positively evaluating the meeting: «With this Mobility Forum, we were able to listen to the residents, welcoming suggestions that can enhance the city and providing solutions to the issues raised.»
