Today, the Operation Asphalt 2025-2027 has been presented in Alcobendas, which will be carried out in our city over the next three years with a total investment of eight million euros and an affected area of 600,000 square meters, distributed among the four districts: North, Center, Urbanizations, and Business.
The mayor, Rocío García Alcántara, emphasized that «Operation Asphalt will be carried out in a very planned manner to have the least impact on traffic and minimal inconvenience to our residents.»
The presentation was attended by Miguel Ángel García Martín, Councilor of Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration of the Community of Madrid, the institution that finances six million of this Operation Asphalt in our city through its Regional Investment Program (PIR) 2022-2026. The councilor highlighted the importance of our city in the northern corridor, currently being «one of the main economic assets of the region thanks to its investment in infrastructure and its high business development.»
‘Phase I’ in progress
The presentation took place next to the parking lot of the Valdelasfuentes station of Cercanías Renfe, where the works of Phase I have already begun, lasting three months, with an affected area of 115,704.40 square meters, distributed in 27 roads of the four districts, including Marqués de la Valdavia street, Avenida de la Industria, the service road of the Fuencarral highway, or Azalea street. In this first phase, an investment of 1,625,030.00 euros will be made.
The ‘Operation Asphalt’ will have a total of four phases, with the second expected to start at the end of summer or early fall, the third in mid-2026, and a possible fourth phase in 2027.
Commitment to sustainability
The works of Operation Asphalt include milling, structural repair of the pavement, crack sealing, root sanitation, and replacement of curbs and urban furniture, as well as adjustments to manhole covers and drains.
The Community of Madrid and the City Council have opted for a mix of materials with a lower carbon footprint and, therefore, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, with the new asphalt layers, the noise level of road traffic will be reduced, improving the quality of life for residents by decreasing noise pollution.
The presentation was also attended by the Vice-Councilor of Presidency and Local Administration of the Community of Madrid, José Antonio Sánchez Serrano; the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor of Economy, Contracting, and Heritage, Marta Martín; and the Second Deputy Mayor and Councilor of Environment, Housing, and Works, Jesús Montero.
