The Cultural Center La Galatea hosts the exhibition ‘The voice of the white hands’ until July 16th and the street Miguel Ángel Blanco has inaugurated a commemorative landmark.
Alcalá de Henares, June 19, 2025.- Alcalá de Henares has been the setting for a double tribute to the victims of terrorism, symbolized by the figure of Miguel Ángel Blanco, on the afternoon of this Thursday, June 19th, with the opening of the exhibition ‘The voice of the white hands’ and the unveiling of a commemorative monument dedicated to the councilor from Ermua murdered by ETA in June 1997 on the street that bears his name located in the neighborhood of Espartales Norte.
The Cultural Center La Galatea, in the neighboring neighborhood of Espartales Sur, has hosted the premiere of ‘The voice of the white hands’, a photographic exhibition that is part of the educational and cultural project of the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation to raise awareness about the example of dignity, courage, and coexistence that the victims of terrorism represent. The Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, accompanied by the president of the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation and senator, María del Mar Blanco, have been in charge of inaugurating this exhibition, which will remain at La Galatea until July 16th.
The Deputy Minister of Justice and Victims of the Community of Madrid, María del Carmen Martín García-Matos, and the director of the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation, Cristina Cuesta Gorostidi, have also been present at the inauguration of the exhibition, which has also been attended by the deputy mayors, Isabel Ruiz Maldonado and Cristina Alcañiz, among other councilors of the municipal Corporation.
The mayor has thanked the Miguel Ángel Blanco Foundation for choosing Alcalá as the venue for this traveling exhibition, a «great honor» for the city «because we know firsthand the immense pain of the victims of terrorism and we are aware of the importance of not forgetting and always keeping in mind those who are no longer with us; all those who were taken from us in the most vile and despicable way.»

«And it is an honor, as well, because this exhibition is one of the testimonies with which the city and the people of Alcalá strengthen even more the ties with the memory of Miguel Ángel Blanco; undoubtedly, one of the great symbols of the vindication of memory and civic heritage that the victims of terrorism represent in Spain and in its democratic coexistence,» added Piquet, referring to the commemorative landmark that the group inaugurated after the exhibition and that is located in the roundabout that connects Miguel Ángel Blanco street with Victims of Terrorism Avenue.
The mayor of Alcalá highlighted the importance of organizing these types of tribute testimonies in neighborhoods with a young population, such as Espartales, «because they sow knowledge and awareness, as it is essential to know where we come from, to value in their proper measure the values of democracy and freedom that we enjoy in the present, and make them our own to defend them and project them into the future.»
