The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the delegate of Urbanism, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, and the councilors of the districts of Centro and Ciudad Lineal, Carlos Segura and Nadia Álvarez, participated in the traditional procession of the Royal, Illustrious and Fervent Brotherhood and Confraternity of Nazarenes of Our Father Jesus of the Great Power and Mary Most Holy of Hope Macarena, which toured several streets of the Centro district.
The sculptural work of Jesus of the Great Power is the work of José Rodríguez and Fernández-Andes, author of images of some very popular brotherhoods in Seville. It was blessed on March 20, 1942, in the Parish Church of Santa Cruz in Madrid and restored at the end of the year 1997 in the Almudena Workshop in Madrid.
On the other hand, the image of Mary Most Holy of Hope Macarena is the work of the sculptor Antonio Eslava Rubio, it bears a great resemblance to the Macarena of Seville, although it has its own personality and processes in a Sevillian canopy carried by brother costaleros. It was restored in the year 2000 in the Almudena Workshop.
The brotherhood made its first penance station in the early hours of Good Friday in 1946, only with the passage of the Lord of the Great Power. On March 25, 1948, Holy Thursday, the passage of the Most Holy Virgin of Hope came out for the first time. Since then, the departure of the brotherhood is maintained in the late evening of Holy Thursday through the streets of Madrid de los Austrias.
