Nuevo diseño de los Puntos Arcoíris para combatir la lgtbifobia

The delegate of Social Policies, Family and Equality, José Fernández, presented today the new distinctive design of the Rainbow Points that the Madrid City Council installs at municipal parties and events in the city to raise awareness against lgtbiphobia and assist possible victims. The new image, more recognizable to facilitate better identification of these spaces, was unveiled at the flag-raising ceremony of the LGBTI flag that Fernández and other members of the municipal government carried out in Pedro Zerolo Square with the Diversa Global association on the occasion of International LGBT Pride Day, celebrated every June 28th.

As the delegate reported, the renewed Rainbow Points tents will be deployed during MADO 2025 in two locations close to the main stages: this Saturday in Opera Square and on Saturday, July 5th, coinciding with the demonstration, in Callao Square. In addition, in the coming weeks, they will be set up at parties in different districts such as Tetuán or Villa de Vallecas, as well as in San Cayetano, San Lorenzo, and La Paloma in Centro, among others.

The Rainbow Points play a preventive and dissuasive role against lgtbiphobic violence. Their presence increases the perception of safety for attendees at the events where they are set up and helps create more respectful and inclusive environments. Additionally, in the event of any aggression or threat to a person based on their sexual identity or gender orientation, the professionals who are part of this resource accompany the victim and provide guidance on the available resources.

Municipal service for victims of lgtbiphobia

In fact, the Rainbow Points also function as informative spaces, disseminating resources such as the municipal service for victims of lgtbiphobia, which, since its launch in 2022, provides free psychological assistance and legal guidance to those who have suffered this type of violence or discrimination.

Those in need can request an appointment by phone at 604 953 169 or by email at serviciolgtbifobia@madrid.es. They will be assisted either in person at an office at the Maravillas Social Services Center (10 San Joaquín Street) or online. Between June 2024 and June 2025, a total of 40 individuals received individualized attention: 31 men and 9 women.

This municipal service for victims of lgtbiphobia works closely with Madrid Salud and the Municipal Police Diversity Management Office. Additionally, it has organized training sessions for professionals from other municipal resources.

Raising of the LGBTI flag

After presenting the new design of the Rainbow Points, the delegate of Social Policies, Family and Equality raised the LGBTI flag in Pedro Zerolo Square. With this symbolic action, jointly promoted by the Madrid City Council and the Diversa Global association, International LGBT Pride Day was commemorated.

The Madrid City Council is once again the main sponsor of MADO 2025 with a contribution of 500,000 euros and collaborates with the organizers to ensure its smooth development, thanks to the participation of municipal security, emergency, and cleaning services. Additionally, the City Council has launched an institutional campaign on the city’s mupis, banners, awnings, and screens under the slogan ‘Freedom and Diversity’, celebrating Madrid’s consolidation as a reference for respect for diversity and as a place where love is embraced freely.

The Madrid City Council promotes actions and services throughout the year aimed at promoting the rights of LGBTI people and favoring the eradication of any form of violence or discrimination against them. Among these initiatives is the municipal guide developed and published this year, which includes specific resources for the LGBTI population from both the City Council and entities.

Furthermore, the Social Policies, Family and Equality Area will allocate a total of 665,000 euros in direct subsidies and competitive grants in 2025 to support the work of LGBTI entities, representing a 35% increase compared to 2019. Additionally, it has sponsored the Diversa Ayuntamiento de Madrid Award in both 2024 and 2025, which, as part of the awards granted by the Diversa Global association, recognizes organizations and entities working in favor of LGBTI people.

It also offers companies advisory services to develop diversity plans and provides training to municipal staff on sexual diversity. This is complemented by the work of the Municipal Observatory against LGBTIphobia, a body for ongoing participation and measurement of the impact of violence and discrimination against LGBTI people in the city, established in 2022.
