In Majadahonda, a series of activities have been organized to celebrate the International Women’s Day, which is commemorated on March 8th worldwide, this year under the United Nations theme «For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.»
Conferences, workshops, shows, and sports events will take place from March 3rd to March 10th, along with a central institutional event on Friday, March 7th.

For example, on Friday, March 7th, a workshop on «The power of 8 questions that will remind you who you are» will be held at the Casa de la Cultura «Carmen Conde,» led by the writer Amparo Trujillo, to highlight, through a group dynamic, the advances of women in today’s society. There will also be a conference-concert titled «Forgotten talents. Female composers. Music for flute and guitar» at the Municipal Library «Francisco Umbral.»
On the same day, March 7th, a dance, theater, and poetry show titled «Woman’s Verse,» created by Conchita Pradera, will be staged at the Casa de la Cultura Theater to pay tribute to several female poets and recognize their work in favor of women’s rights.

The institutional event held in the Plaza Mayor of the city, also on Friday, March 7th, will include the reading of a manifesto for equal opportunities. It will take place at 11:30 in the morning and will involve various political representatives at the Majadahonda City Council.
Throughout the program to commemorate this International Women’s Day, there will be no shortage of sports events, such as a free taekwondo workshop with basic self-defense techniques. There will also be the 1st Bike March for women, organized in collaboration with the Majadahonda Cycling Club at Monte del Pilar, and a bicycle maintenance workshop.
There will be two 8M marches in Madrid: a demonstration will start from Atocha and the other from Cibeles
Additionally, the 1st Solidarity Swimming Day, organized by the Master Madrid Swimming Club in collaboration with the City Council, will raise funds for the Majadahonda Cancer Association. All these sports activities are scheduled for Saturday, March 8th.
There will also be activities for young people in the program, aiming to promote positive relationships based on equality and respect within couples. The International Women’s Day events will conclude on Monday, March 10th, with a conference on «The forgotten intellectuals of the Spanish avant-garde.»

Myriam Lantero, Doctor in Philology, will introduce us to ‘Las Sinsombrero,’ a term coined to refer to the women of the Generation of 27, who succeeded alongside male members of the time but were silenced for decades after the Civil War.
