The Madrid City Council, through the Delegated Tourism Area, and the Municipality of Lima have signed an agreement this Wednesday to promote both capitals as gastronomic destinations, in an institutional event led by the delegate councilor for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, and the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Lima, Renzo Reggiardo. This agreement will be the starting point for the ‘DeLiMadrid, a world of flavors’ plan, a strategic alliance to showcase the excellence of Madrid and Lima cuisine to the world.
DeLiMadrid, a pioneering gastronomic alliance
‘DeLiMadrid, a world of flavors’ aims to create new bridges of gastronomic understanding between the culinary universes of Madrid and Lima, as well as to generate communicative and experiential spaces around gastronomy as a focal point for tourism and culture in both cities. It will showcase two cuisines based on authenticity and flavor, with a strong commitment to innovation and fusion.
Among the planned actions under the agreement are initiatives such as DeLiMadrid Week, gastronomic events in Lima where restaurants will offer dishes inspired by Madrid cuisine or paired with wines from Madrid. This event will introduce Limeños to the most representative flavors of the Spanish capital, inviting them to discover its culinary richness. Additionally, there will be collaborative cooking experiences between chefs from both cities, developing a gastronomic experience that expresses the culinary language of Madrid and Lima. Furthermore, a familiarization trip will be organized for Peruvian gastronomic journalists to Madrid to firsthand experience the most representative restaurants of the capital and share their experiences with the Peruvian audience.
Two gastronomic capitals with global projection
In recent years, Madrid and Lima cuisine have gained reciprocal prominence thanks to the growth of educational tourism, the opening of restaurants in both cities, and improved air connectivity between the capitals.
As Maíllo emphasizes, «few experiences speak as much about a place as its way of cooking and eating. DeLiMadrid will be a platform for the world to understand, savor, and enjoy that unique gastronomic connection between Madrid and Lima.» /
