The General Coordinator of the City Council, Inmaculada Sánchez-Cervera, signed this morning a collaboration agreement with representatives of the International Arbitration Association in Madrid and the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club to facilitate the organization of the XXVII International Arbitration Congress of the International Commercial Arbitration Council (ICCA 2026), which will turn the capital into one of the major global centers of international arbitration from April 12 to 15, 2026. The Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club, with the support of the City Council of Madrid, submitted a bid for the celebration of the XXVII ICCA Congress in Madrid, which emerged as the winner.
This agreement demonstrates the commitment of the City Council of Madrid to international arbitration as a guarantee method for conflict resolution, and the organization of the congress will boost the economic promotion of the city and its consolidation as one of the capitals of international arbitration. In this sense, the Madrid City Council already signed another agreement last October with the International Arbitration Association of Madrid to promote the activity of the International Arbitration Center of Madrid-Ibero-American Arbitration Center (CIAM-CIAR).
The XXVII ICCA Congress will gather in Madrid more than 1,500 experts including lawyers, arbitrators, academics, and other professionals in the sector who will make the capital the global epicenter of international arbitration, with a program that will host workshops, presentations, and high-level debates.
With the resolution of disputes and the international enforcement of awards, arbitration provides an environment in which parties can trust that their rights will be protected and a fair and final solution will be reached. Arbitration decisively contributes to strengthening the legal stability of a city or country, making them safer and more reliable for entrepreneurship and investment.
