Madrid becomes the epicenter of European eSports this weekend with the official League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), the largest continental competition of Riot Games’ popular title. LEC leaves its usual headquarters in Berlin for the first time in over a decade to compete in another city, Madrid. The capital continues to strengthen its position as the epicenter of the eSports industry thanks to the support of the City Council through the Madrid in Game initiative.
Ángel Niño, Delegate Councilor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, celebrates the arrival of another major eSports competition in Madrid: «After the Valorant Masters or Call of Duty finals, Madrid once again becomes the top choice to host these global competitions outside their places of origin, demonstrating the industry’s perception of the city’s commitment to building a competitive gaming ecosystem.»
The event will take place on April 26 and 27 at the Madrid Arena and will bring together some of the most renowned international clubs such as Movistar KOI, GIANTX, G2 Esports, and Fnatic. The excitement in the Spanish community for the arrival of the LEC has been immense, with tickets selling out in a matter of minutes. Spain has a strong presence in the league with the participation of three national clubs: Movistar KOI (Madrid), Heretics (Madrid), and GiantX (Málaga).
Madrid in Game at Legends EMEA Championship
This Saturday, the Experience Center at the Video Game Campus in Casa de Campo will host ‘MADRID IN LEC’, a live program serving as a prelude to the event hosted by Alejandro ‘Kuentin’ Cotrina, commentator for Movistar KOI.
Once the competition has started, Madrid in Game will have a booth at the Movistar Arena where visitors can enjoy a free area to play various mini-games and popular challenges in the League of Legends community like Nunu Drift or Dr. Mundo Dodge Ball./
