Madrid se prepara para el día grande de San Isidro

The Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sports of the City Council of Madrid offers tomorrow, May 15, a comprehensive program to celebrate the great day of San Isidro, the city’s patron saint, with proposals aimed at all types of audiences and spread across the main stages of the capital.

Music and traditional dances in the Pradera

The day will begin at 10:00 am with the traditional parade of the Federation of Traditional Madrid Groups, which will travel along the Quince de Mayo promenade to the Ermita del Santo. Along the route, carnations, handkerchiefs, fans, and parpusas will be distributed. At 1:00 pm, the Field Mass will be celebrated in the Pradera de San Isidro and, from 5:00 pm, the atmosphere will be enlivened with musical performances and popular dances.

The musical closure in this space will be provided, starting at 8:30 pm, by the emblematic pop band Modestia Aparte, celebrating 37 years of artistic career, and their songs, turned into anthems for a whole generation, will transport the audience to the decades of the 80s and 90s. At 10:30 pm, Los Manolos will bring their fusion of Catalan rumba and pop, filling the Pradera with color and joy.

Madrid folklore and pop music in Plaza Mayor

In Plaza Mayor, at 12:00 pm, the 41st Festival of Madrid Dances will be celebrated. On stage, the Madrid School of Bolero, also known as ‘goyesca,’ will join hands with the music and dances of Castilian tradition that evoke the Madrid of yesteryears. In the afternoon, at 7:00 pm, Los Brincos will offer a concert in which they will review their greatest hits, so that the audience can experience a magical evening with songs full of memories and unforgettable melodies. And, after the procession of San Isidro, the Mondragón Orchestra, led by Javier Gurruchaga, will offer, at 9:30 pm, a commemorative show for the 40th anniversary of their album Rock & Roll Circus.

Traditional fashion, castizo music, and cuplé in Vistillas

Also tomorrow, at 12:30 pm, the Vistillas stage will host the second edition of the fashion contest Reinventing Chulapos, organized by La Juan Gallery. This design competition offers young talents the opportunity to express their creativity by reinventing the traditional chulapa and chulapo attire in honor of the San Isidro festivities. The event will culminate with a fashion show, where designs created especially for the occasion will be presented to the public, and a panel of experts will select the winner.

In the evening, at 8:00 pm, Olga María Ramos will share with the audience at Vistillas a fun, mischievous, sentimental, and very castizo concert with the best cuplés and chotis. And, at 9:15 pm, Mari Pepa de Chamberí, another reference in traditional Madrid music, will present Viva San Isidro, a castizo show that brings together the most popular songs from the Madrid songbook.

The most popular street party at Matadero Madrid

At 8:30 pm, the Maremagnum orchestra will get Matadero dancing with over three hours of live music covering all kinds of musical styles. Their show stands out for an impressive staging that includes over 50 costume changes and a wide repertoire covering all kinds of musical styles for all audiences, putting the festive finishing touch to this space, turned into a great street party during these days.

Additionally, at the Puppet Theater of El Retiro, at 6:30 pm, the little ones in the house have an appointment with San Isidro Titiritero, where Zaguán Teatro company will offer the puppet show CocoTeloDrilo.

The culmination of the festivities will come at midnight, with a fireworks display illuminating the sky of Madrid and bidding farewell to the 2025 celebrations in honor of San Isidro Labrador.
