After closing 2024 with nearly one million visits, 10% more than the previous year, municipal museums continue the upward trend in the number of visitors in 2025. The data available until May 31, corresponding to the Museum of History of Madrid, the Museum of San Isidro. The Origins of Madrid, and the Municipal Printing Press-Arts of the Book, reflect the sustained growth of these spaces under the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sports.
The Museum of History of Madrid received nearly 118,000 visitors in the first five months of the year. Throughout 2024, this space accumulated around 276,000 visits, compared to almost 238,500 in 2023. Located in the former Hospice of San Fernando, its tour covers the history of Madrid from the installation of the Court to the beginning of the 20th century, through an extensive collection of plans, models, furniture pieces, portraits, fans, or carriages.
The Museum of San Isidro. The Origins of Madrid has counted almost 47,000 visitors until May 31, compared to the nearly 45,250 recorded in that same period of 2024. While in 2023, it closed with almost 94,000 visitors. Conceived as a space for dissemination and learning, it offers a journey from the earliest human settlements in the area to the establishment of the Court, with special attention to young and school audiences. It includes organized visits, digital resources, archaeological pieces, and experimental archaeology workshops.
The Municipal Printing Press-Arts of the Book, specialized in the history and techniques of printing, has received 15,700 visits so far in 2025, while last year it totaled nearly 33,250 visitors. In addition to its permanent exhibition, it carries out a fundamental task of preserving the graphic heritage, restoring books and documents belonging to other municipal institutions.
These spaces are part of the strategy of the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sports to strengthen municipal museums as cultural facilities in proximity to neighborhoods and in connection with citizens. They develop activities with schools, special programming on key dates, and collaborations with other municipal spaces. Additionally, municipal museums also deal with the conservation of the historical heritage of the city, as in the case of the recent restoration of the processional custody of Madrid. /
