La Junta de Gobierno aprueba inversión de 3,1 millones para calle Torrelaguna

The Local Government Board approved on Friday the Renewal of the Sewerage Network Project in the City of Alcalá de Henares, with a budget of over 3.1 million euros. This project, funded by the Regional Investment Plan (PIR) 2022-2026, will enhance the infrastructure in critical areas of the city.

The project focuses on renewing sewerage networks that are structurally depleted or lacking hydraulic capacity in various locations within our city. The works will be carried out in a section of Vía Complutense, from Andrés Saborit Street to O’Donnell Park, as well as in Daoíz and Velarde Street and Torrelaguna Street up to its intersection with Marqués de Santillana Street, at the entrance to the underground.

Mayor Judith Piquet explained, «This is a long-standing demand of the city aimed at renewing the sewerage network. We understand it may not be visually appealing, but it is crucial. The previous municipal government only resurfaced the affected streets without renewing the collector or addressing this significant structural issue, despite being aware of the existing problem.» «Therefore,» Piquet added, «this is a vital investment for the city due to the frequent flooding at Torrelaguna bridge and its surroundings, which we hope will cease with this project.»

The actions outlined in this project are designed to improve the hydraulic operation of the network, reduce the environmental impact of discharges in unitary networks, and facilitate maintenance operations.

The main needs to be addressed include renewing pipes that have reached the end of their lifespan, corrective actions in the network, improving rainwater drainage, increasing diameters along the entire route to enhance capacity during heavy rainfall, and addressing structural problems, especially in the Vía Complutense section between Andrés Saborit and O’Donnell Park.
