The Deputy Mayor of Madrid and Delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inma Sanz, has participated in the opening of the 27th Dual Pathology Congress, organized by the Spanish Society of Dual Pathology (SEPD) and World Association on Dual Disorders (WADD), which will gather in Madrid, between June 4th and 7th, 1,500 professionals in the field and where the Addiction Institute of the municipal organization Madrid Salud will play a prominent role.
Dual pathology refers to the coexistence of a substance use disorder and a mental disorder. In this regard, Sanz has expressed that «the fight against addictions and in favor of mental health is central to the City Council» and has added that «it is a great satisfaction that the Dual Pathology Congress returns to our city.»
The Deputy Mayor and Delegate for Security and Emergencies has indicated that the Addiction Institute of Madrid Salud attended to 3,736 people diagnosed with dual pathology in 2024, 18% more than in 2023. She has also praised the Dual Pathology Center, a pioneer in Spain, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary and attends to more than 250 patients annually.
«We consider prevention fundamental, both in mental health and addictions, because the goal is to build healthier cities and societies, and therefore, freer and able to offer opportunities to citizens,» concluded Sanz. /
