The presentation «Line Sueña», the main exhibition of MDF25
The Delegate of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, presented today La línea sueña, the main exhibition of the Madrid Design Festival (MDF25). Light is one of the main protagonists of this eighth edition, which presents, for the first time in the history of the festival, a monographic exhibition on the relationship between light and space with this sensory experience in the clean Fernán Gómez Municipal Theater. Vilă Cultural Center.
La línea sueña, which can be visited between February 7 and 20, within the program of the Madrid Design Festival, showcases the work of 45 creators through 70 different pieces covering various disciplines: interior lighting, product design, and light installations. All of them share a design sense closely related to architecture and landscape, and a particular vision of light where it takes place technically and metaphorically in parallel.
This exhibition demonstrates, in the words of Rivera de Cruz, «that we have allowed ourselves to be influenced by the aesthetics of darkness and its relationship with light.» Additionally, she emphasized that «Madrid will be illuminated by MDF25,» showing the local council’s commitment to this festival.
The exhibition, with the exhibition design by Studio Animal, has the collaboration of Cosentino and Room magazine. Its title refers to Paul Klee’s idea of drawing as a connection between the internal world and reality, a metaphor that moves light as a cerebral spill in space.
Design, subject, and concept: the pieces in La línea sueña
La línea sueña values lighting design as a discipline. The exhibition is organized around different thematic blocks as perspectives to explore the works: «Light in the landscape,» «praises of the dark application of the installation.» Its route focuses on both the effects produced by light and the elements that generate, emit, or disseminate it, creating a coherent unity through design.
From 400-kilogram pieces to luminaires made from urban waste like polystyrene, inspired by Granada Lantern, each creation offers a unique vision of light. Durability and innovation also play a key role in pieces made through 3D printing or designed with recycled materials like wool lamps from Mallorca or the Tierra, excelente y aire collection by Héctor Serrano, National Design Award winner in 2024.
The exhibition, which invites reflection on perception and creativity, features the participation of artists and designers whose works highlight their innovation and ability to transform environments through light. Some of them include Antoni Arola, Massimiliano Moro, nosotros+, Maximilian Marchesani, Michael Anastassiades, Andreu Carulla, Mayice, Ábbatte, Marre Morel, Elurpi, Davide Groppi, Dear & Aurel, Josep Vila Capdevila, Jana Totiill, Héctor SERO, MAX RICHY, AUREL, Max Enrich, Max Enrich, Max Eduardo Barco, Studio Elémentireres, Carlos Toryrijos, María Abyndo Olarán, Candela Tent/LZF, Marta Pascual, Mario Ruiz, Ezequiel, Max Milá, gracias/Suru, Carlos Coronas, Elisa Valero, Frank Oehring, and Noble González Haase.

Additionally, Frank Oehring will present an installation of his iconic ICC light sculpture. The exhibition brings visibility to Berlin’s talent throughout the festival and strengthens the network of contact between Berlin design and the festival’s international audience.
«All the works gathered stand out for their innovation and ability to transform environments through light, based on various ways of feeling and building elements to illuminate our surroundings,» said the exhibition commissioner, Javier Rira. «Therefore, temperature, saturation, intensity translate into emotional elements, highlighting the artistic power of light: light as an intangible element, but one that touches and penetrates our psychology far beyond our skin,» he added.
