The delegate of Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero, accompanied by the councilor of Villa de Vallecas, Carlos González Pereira, visited this morning the works that the Madrid City Council is finishing to establish an accessible pedestrian connection on the path of Pozo del Tío Raimundo between the roundabout of Entrevías Avenue and the underpass under the railway tracks that gives access to the industrial estate of Vallecas. The intervention, which represents an investment of 2.6 million euros, will be completed in the coming days and will improve pedestrian permeability between the districts of Puente de Vallecas and Villa de Vallecas starting next Friday.
The small existing north sidewalk, which did not meet accessibility standards, has been modified to comply with regulations. Additionally, since the route crosses four bridges (three over the M-40 and one over the railway tracks), the intervention has included the expansion of the deck on these structures on the north side to accommodate the new accessible sidewalk.
Furthermore, the pavement of the roadway and its drainage have been renewed to improve functionality and prevent water accumulation, the public lighting has been adapted and improved to increase safety and visibility throughout the area, and the signage and landscaping of the surroundings have been improved.
Comprehensive improvement of pedestrian accessibility in the area
The project complements another recent intervention that involved the construction of a new underpass for vehicles under the railway track adjacent to the industrial estate of Vallecas. This underpass replaces the previous one, which was very narrow and required an alternative circulation of vehicles through traffic lights. In addition to the construction of the new vehicle underpass, the old one has been conditioned for exclusive pedestrian use, works that have represented an investment of 2.4 million euros.
