Israel Fernández cerrará la primera Bienal Flamenco Madrid

The Flamenco Madrid Biennial, organized by the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Sports of the City Council, enters its final stretch tomorrow, which will culminate on Friday, June 6 with a free concert by cantaor Israel Fernández at the Auditorium in Enrique Tierno Galván Park. The entire program of this first Biennial has been well received by the public, with full houses at many of the shows. In its last week, the Biennial offers seven new appointments with singing, dancing, and guitar, including three absolute premieres.

Tomorrow, Madrid will host the Spanish premiere of ¡Lorca!, by the Finnish company Kaari & Roni Martin. The living legend of flamenco, Carmen Linares; the recent winner of the National Dance Award, Rafaela Carrasco; the master of flamenco piano, Pablo Suárez, and the company itself revisit the flamenco lyrics of Federico García Lorca, deeply rooted in the Romani, Sephardic Jewish, and Arab culture of Andalusia. The event will take place tomorrow in the South Courtyard of the Condeduque Contemporary Culture Center.

On Tuesday, three proposals of dance, singing, and guitar arrive. In the Nave Uno at Matadero Madrid, Antonio Molina El Choro will show for the first time in Madrid the show Arza, theory of the spontaneous, which demonstrates how his flamenco spontaneity arises from his previous path. Dance will also take center stage at the theater of the Condeduque Contemporary Culture Center with the absolute premiere of La Familia, an innovative proposal by dancer and choreographer Julio Ruiz. Finally, in the South Courtyard of Condeduque, the day will end with Los Magníficos, composed of Sandra Carrasco, one of the most important voices of the moment; David de Arahal, master of the guitar; Andrés Barrios, on piano; and El Yiyo, who embodies the strength of flamenco dance.

Another absolute premiere will take place at the Matadero Dance Center next Wednesday, June 4, with Magnificat, by María Moreno. The dancer acts as a guide and transports the audience through a succession of landscapes that speak of states of the soul and body, culminating in a great celebration. On the same day, dancer Rosario Toledo leads Cuarteta, which explores through dance and singing a quartet rehearsal of carnival with singers Inma La Carbonera and Eva Ruiz La Lebri.

The closing gala, a party for all of Madrid

The Flamenco Madrid Biennial closes its first edition with a concert that will remain in the city’s memory. It is a free show at the Auditorium in Enrique Tierno Galván Park, confirming the City Council’s commitment to a Biennial accessible to all audiences. On June 6, a key figure in contemporary flamenco, Israel Fernández, will take center stage.

The concert is a celebration of flamenco in its most authentic and renewed expression, seen through the eyes of one of the most influential artists of his generation. Israel Fernández will look back on his entire body of work and perform several songs live for the first time, as well as some unreleased tracks. Surrounded by his usual musicians, with special mention to the genius of the guitar Diego del Morao, joined by a string quartet, choirs, drums, electronic synthesizers, and a carefully crafted stage design. In this way, Fernández aims to take the audience on a sensory journey designed to evoke emotions through his music. /
