The deputy mayor, Inma Sanz, has closed this afternoon, at the Teatro Español, the 19th ONCE Theater Biennial that, for the first time in its history, has been held in Madrid. «On the 12th, I had the opportunity to present the collaboration of the City Council of Madrid with ONCE for the celebration of this edition and I predicted that it would be a great success because when something is done with the affection that the participating companies have put into it and with the professionalism that ONCE brings, success is guaranteed,» Sanz declared, thanking the work of all those who have made this Biennial possible.
The 19th edition of the ONCE Biennial, which started on May 19th and concludes today, has ended with the performance at the Teatro Español of the play Pervertimento, performed by the Valacar company from La Coruña, which has a stable group of actors and actresses with severe visual impairment or blindness. «This performance is undoubtedly another of the great theatrical events of the year not only for its undeniable artistic quality but also for its significance in terms of inclusion and access to culture,» pointed out the deputy mayor, who emphasized that «there can be no better setting for the closing of an event like this. If there is an emblematic theater in Madrid, it is the Teatro Español.»
The City Council has supported the Biennial through different areas. EMT Madrid has promoted the program on its buses and social networks; the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Sport has provided various theaters, and the Municipal Board of Moncloa-Aravaca has provided the Plaza de España for an informative tent throughout the week. In addition, the Department of Social Policies, Family, and Equality has signed a sponsorship agreement to promote the social inclusion of people with visual disabilities through the Theater Biennial. /
