Inicio de obras en Parque Ventas la próxima semana con importantes mejoras.

The construction works of Parque Ventas, the project that will create a new space of 16,370 m2 over the M-30, connecting pedestrianly and landscapically the districts of Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal, will begin next week. This was announced by the delegate of Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero, after the Government Board.

The contract specifications, formalized last February, established a period of four months for the awardee to draft the execution project, complementing the basic project presented to the bidding with the requirements made by the various municipal services. As a result of this process, significant improvements worth 7 million euros have been incorporated into the project, so that the total budget for Parque Ventas will be 78.9 million euros, 8.9 million below the base bidding budget.

Among the improvements, what stands out is the tree planting. In this regard, 960 trees will be planted, almost 400 more than initially planned. The project includes the incorporation of a cypress vegetal screen to create acoustic protection for the homes. Likewise, irrigation with regenerated water from the general network will be installed, for which it is necessary to implement a pumping system for the impulse to the irrigation network of the new cover.

In order to minimize the impact on the M-30 during the works, the execution project foresees fewer foundations and of a greater diameter to reduce occupation times. In addition, the proposal for in situ piles has been changed to prefabricated piles that can be installed at night.

The project also includes improvements in the proposed waterproofing, as a soil cover will be executed above the platform intended for the planting of vegetal species. This will allow better aeration and retention of moisture and easier evacuation of excess water on the cover structure to prevent infiltration water from penetrating the M-30. Additionally, the works will include complete waterproofing of the underground parking cover existing under the Antonio Pirala park.

To minimize the impact on the green areas of both margins, the layout and supports of the footbridges have been adjusted to adapt to the existing tree vegetation, and the enlargement of two of them, one on each margin, to allow the passage of emergency and maintenance vehicles has been included. In addition, improvements in paving, lighting, and planned furniture are included throughout the intervention area.

Another improvement concerns the M-30 itself. In this regard, two new variable signage panels will be installed with their respective support portals and two new fixed signage portals. Also, the project includes the necessary complements in the equipment of the Madrid Calle 30 Tunnels Control Center for the integration of the facilities of the new covered section in the general control system. Additionally, the lighting system will be improved to adjust to the new specifications of the ring road.

A transformative project

Parque Ventas will connect both margins of the M-30 through eight footbridges and will have pedestrian, landscaped, and stay areas where playgrounds, calisthenics elements, a small area for outdoor performances, two kiosks, fountains, benches, and trash cans will be installed. Likewise, the new space will be provided with high-efficiency LED lighting.

The new platform will be located about 300 meters south of the Ventas bridge. This location has been determined as the most suitable for several reasons. On the one hand, it avoids the demolition of the ramps that connect the M-30 with Alcalá Street, which would imply a significant impact on mobility for many months, as well as significant technical complexity. On the other hand, in the 300-meter stretch south of the bridge, there are Metro installations and a Canal de Isabel II reservoir that would make the platform connection unfeasible. In addition, the chosen M-30 section runs in a trench at a lower level than the city on both sides of the infrastructure, making the work easier.

The project will not only involve the creation of the covered platform over the M-30 but will also include significant improvements on both margins covering another 40,300 m2. In other words, the total intervention area will exceed 56,600 m2.

Improvements on the Salamanca district side

At the Sancho Dávila park, the aim is to minimize impact, so only conditioning of the paths to integrate them with the footbridge accesses and to repair the areas eroded by runoff, improving their surface is planned. The route of Ramón de Aguinaga Street, which currently ends at the footbridge of the same name, will be enhanced as the main access to the new space from the southwest area, which will be carried out by transforming this street into a single-platform road and creating stairs that will connect directly with the current Ramón de Aguinaga footbridge over the M-30.

At the northern end of Sancho Dávila park, the existing playground and dog area will be remodeled, in addition to the renovation of Alejandro González Street and the America Española square, which will connect Alcalá Street with the new space over the M-30. Alejandro González Street will be rearranged to facilitate traffic, and in the America Española square, the east part of the current circulation ring will be pedestrianized.

Improvements on the Ciudad Lineal district side

On the Ciudad Lineal side, all the open spaces between the residential blocks and the M-30 in the Antonio Pirala Street area will be completely remodeled, where the park interior will be rearranged. The goal is to reclaim a currently unused residual space, connecting it at its main nodes with the new space covering the M-30 and improving, in turn, the transversal connection routes with the Ventas neighborhood.

This side will have a pedestrian promenade whose width will gradually increase towards the north. The area will have spaces for children, sports, and seniors. On the other hand, the currently reserved space for vehicular traffic will be integrated with the pedestrian promenade, creating a coexistence road in a single platform. The project also includes the area located further north of the Antonio Pirala park, connecting to Alcalá Street. It is a space, between a park and a square, that will be reorganized to enhance it as a meeting place. /
