One more week, 21 DISTRITOS, the program of the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sports of the City Council of Madrid, offers a varied cultural program for all audiences and tastes. Over the next few days, there will be activities in Tetuán, Vicálvaro, Latina, Villa de Vallecas, Hortaleza, and Retiro, with proposals ranging from theater to contemporary dance.
On Wednesday, April 9, at 5:00 p.m., Madrid Street Art Project will hold the family workshop ‘Ecocam’ at the María Zambrano Municipal Public Library (Tetuán). In this activity, participants will create their own analog camera with recycled materials while learning the basic principles of photography. After building the machine, they can go out to capture images in their environment autonomously.
On Friday, April 11, at 7:00 p.m., the renowned Argentine actor Héctor Alterio will present his play Like 3000 years ago at the Valdebernardo Cultural Center (Vicálvaro), accompanied by José Luis Merlín on the guitar. An intimate dialogue between the actor and poetry that pays tribute to the legacy of the poet León Felipe, on the 50th anniversary of his death. Simultaneously, at the Paco de Lucía Cultural Center (Latina), Juan Berlanga, a dancer from the National Ballet of Spain, will perform JUANCABALLO; a piece that invites you to explore the roots of popular tradition, where myth and reality intertwine, as part of the ‘Latina en Danza’ cycle.
On Saturday, April 12, at 12:00 p.m., Cultura a fuego lento will be inaugurated at the Eduardo Úrculo Cultural Center (Tetuán). A new cycle that seeks to contextualize culture, taking it to less common spaces; in this case, to the kitchen. For this, the playwright Fernanda Orazi will share her vision of cooking, treatment, and transformation of food, drawing a parallel with the processes of theatrical creation.
At 7:00 p.m., the Zazuar Cultural Center (Villa de Vallecas) will host the Kampai Company, winner of the 21 DISTRITOS Award at the Madrid Choreographic Dance Contest. The company will present Kompass and Mirage, two striking urban dance shows that can also be enjoyed the next day, at the same time, at the Paco de Lucía Cultural Center (Latina).
Also at 7:00 p.m., at the Sanchinarro Cultural Center (Hortaleza), NILU will be celebrated, a circus show by Enric Romaguera directed by Nacho Diago. This production, which combines circus arts with magic, object theater, and live music, offers a poetic and innovative experience, inviting the audience to reflect and enjoy a unique moment.
To end the weekend, on Sunday, April 13, at 6:00 p.m., the Casa de Vacas Cultural Center (Retiro) will host Celeste, a shadow puppet theater piece with hardly any words, inspired by Greek mythology. Created by the Luz, micro y punto company, this show combines poetic images—both in shadows and in the actresses’ interpretation—with evocative melodies, transporting the audience to a dreamlike universe where anything is possible.
