The programming for the month of June at Espacio Abierto, a center for children and adolescents in the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sports of the City Council of Madrid, proposes to transport young people through theater, discover and invent an aquatic world in an immersive play set, and explore the artistic possibilities of a simple sheet of paper in creative workshops.
The theatrical piece Entre el caos y el ojalá is the result of the seventh edition of ‘Mundo Quinta’, the annual documentary theater project at Espacio Abierto supervised by Cross Border. An initiative that offers young people the possibility to create a defined and self-produced play to tell the world about the things that truly concern them. The performances will take place in the Auditorium on the weekend of June 27, 28, and 29.
A few days earlier, on June 19, a new play ecosystem designed by La Pieza and Ephimera Play will arrive at the Urbanoteca, transformed into a sensory and interactive garden that grows as visitors create it. Hidrosfera, the organic expansion of the current Biosfera, will bring about a change of scenery transforming it into an experience of play in fantastic aquatic worlds, inspired by the water biomes on Earth: their cycles, the phenomena they generate, and their symbolism.
Creative Workshops
The proposals from Espacio Abierto will continue with several creative workshops. The first, on June 14, will be Ver lo invisible, a walk with artist and designer Silvia Ferpal through Quinta de los Molinos. Participants will explore patterns, contours, and hidden shapes in the environment, and their creations will be part of a graphic repository that will serve as the basis for subsequent graphic pieces and creative uses of the center.
On June 21, the appointment will be with Fanzine e imprenta, where Colectivo HUL will introduce artistic and experimental printing and binding techniques such as screen printing, manual stamping, or risography for each participant to create their own fanzine. On June 29, Esculturas para llevar de viaje, by Art Stories, will explore the possibilities of what can be done with a sheet of paper to create a 3D sculpture that can fit in a suitcase.
Regarding quiet play experiences for young children, they will continue with Theke. El gran desfile, by El hilo rojo, on June 7, 8, 21, and 22, and A juego lento, a free play and sensory exploration experience led by the Cultural Mediation team from the center itself on June 15 and 22.
