The school has celebrated the 50th anniversary of its creation and has received municipal recognition in an extraordinary session of the plenary.
Alcalá de Henares, June 3, 2025.- The City Council of Alcalá de Henares has awarded the Silver Medal of the City to the Infant and Primary Education School Nuestra Señora del Val for its half a century of history and public service. This award took place in an extraordinary plenary session presided over by the mayor, Judith Piquet, attended by a representation of students, parents, and teaching staff of the school with their director, Adelaida Moclán García, at the helm.
She was in charge of receiving the municipal distinction from the mayor, Judith Piquet, during the plenary session, which was attended by the entirety of the Municipal Corporation, as well as a performance by Valcanto, the school’s choir, who interpreted a version of the pasodoble ‘Alcalá de Henares’, considered the city’s anthem.
The mayor has cited the Nuestra Señora del Val School as a clear example and exponent «of the social growth that Alcalá has experienced, with all its neighborhoods, in recent decades,» and has praised its capacity for adaptation and innovation to become «a school for everyone, as the motto of its educational project states.»
In that sense, Piquet has thanked the effort made by teachers, service staff, and families over this half century to turn Nuestra Señora del Val into an institution in that populous corner of the city. «A neighborhood much loved in Alcalá, of which this school has been and is one of the fundamental references and meeting points; a space for meeting, protection, and care, which are the values that many see symbolized in our beloved patron saint that gives them their name,» said the mayor, adding that it is «a great school for a great neighborhood of which all the people of Alcalá are fully proud.»
An inclusive and innovative school
The Nuestra Señora del Val School opened its doors in September 1974 and has adapted to the pace of growth and the needs of its neighborhood, nestled in one of the major areas of urban and demographic expansion of Alcalá in recent decades.
Thus, in its beginnings, it had a 3-line structure and schooling up to the eighth grade, and was also a pioneer in introducing a school cafeteria with its own kitchen. In 2002, it absorbed students and teachers from the neighboring CEIP Arcipreste de Hita.
In the 2007-08 school year, it became a preferential center for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with the aim of offering specialized educational attention to these students. In 2010-11, it became a Bilingual Education center, and two years later, teachers and students participated in the Comenius project.
A program for detecting dyslexia, the sponsorship of the Henares River, the Patios project, the Oratory project, the Emotional Mailbox, or the school choir, among other creative initiatives, are some of the actions that this inclusive and innovative educational center has developed and continues to promote, which currently has 400 students.
