El teatro Fernán Gómez presenta ‘Casa de muñecas’ con María León

Juan Carlos Pérez de la Fuente, artistic director of the Fernán Gómez Theater. Centro Cultural de la Villa, presented this morning Casa de muñecas, the classic by Nobel Prize winner Henrik Ibsen, which can be seen in the Sala Guirau of this space in the Area of Culture, Tourism, and Sports from May 16 to June 22. He was accompanied at the presentation by the director of the play, Lautaro Perotti, the playwright who made the adaptation, Eduardo Galán, and the actors María León, Patxi Freytez, Pepa Gracia, Santia Marín, and Alejandro Bruni.

About the play

The play, set in Oslo in 2024, introduces Nora Helmer and her husband Osvaldo, who lead an apparently ideal life. However, Osvaldo’s professional rise and the return of a friend from the past uncover hidden tensions that will test their relationship. Faced with social judgments and a lack of understanding from her surroundings, Nora must make a decision that will mark a before and after in her life: leave her home to find herself.

In this version of Casa de muñecas, the essential conflicts of the original text are transferred to contemporary society, where Nora faces issues such as gender inequality, social pressure, and the struggle for personal independence in a context marked by individualism and family crises. The production is a perfect combination of faithfulness to Ibsen’s spirit and a contemporary perspective that resonates with the audience of today.

The set design by Lua Quiroga is one of the standout elements of this production. With minimalist and geometric structures, the stage simulates the different spaces of a house, metaphorically evoking the concept of a dollhouse. This creative solution allows for playing with the idea of confinement and exhibition of the protagonist, while giving the play a contemporary and visually striking style that invites the audience to delve into Nora’s life and inner conflicts. Together with the original soundtrack by Manu Solís, an immersive, dynamic, and emotional environment has been created.
