Asked about who suggested that the company invest in the Complutense project, it has been stated, according to sources present in the interrogation, that it was Gomez herself.

After the proceedings on Wednesday, Vox’s legal representative, Marta Castro, stated in comments to the press that these statements represent «one step closer to the corruption and influence peddling centered around Moncloa.»

Luis Pardo, lawyer for Iustitia Europa – one of the accusers in the case – has stated that they are waiting for the judge to determine «whether to continue summoning more witnesses,» to decide on «new charges,» or to «proceed to the trial to prosecute Begoña Gómez and all those who are implicated in the proceedings.» Miguel Escassi, responsible for institutional and public policy at Google, has followed. Company sources have assured Europa Press that their collaboration with the ‘Transforma TSC’ platform at Complutense University was part of their «continuous efforts to support the digital transformation of Spain», with 150 projects with universities and institutions in the last five years.

Also appearing on Wednesday was Luis Abril, responsible for Minsait –a subsidiary of Indra– and current executive advisor and general director of the technology company. It is worth noting that both Google and Indra informed the judge in writing last year of their investments: the former contributed 110,000 euros in software, while the latter contributed 128,442 euros.

On the other hand, Rosauro Varo, vice president of the board of Telefónica Audiovisual Digital, has explained that his relationship with Pedro Sánchez’s wife is strictly professional. When asked who suggested that the company invest in the Complutense project, he stated that it was Gómez herself, according to sources present during the interrogation.

Following the proceedings on Wednesday, Vox’s legal representative, Marta Castro, stated to the press that these statements represent «another step closer to the corruption and influence peddling centered around Moncloa».

Luis Pardo, a lawyer for Iustitia Europa – one of the accusers in the case – has stated that they are waiting for the judge to determine whether to continue calling more witnesses, to agree on «new indictments», or to proceed with the trial to judge Begoña Gómez and all those who are implicated in the proceedings.

Francisco Martín Aguirre says «everything will end in nothing because there is nothing»

MADRID, 14 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Government Delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, denied on Wednesday having participated in the appointment of Cristina Álvarez as an advisor to the President’s wife, Begoña Gómez, in July 2018, distancing himself from the embezzlement charges he is being investigated for.

Legal sources consulted by Europa Press stated that Martín Aguirre made this statement during his testimony as a suspect before Judge Juan Carlos Peinado. According to these sources, he appeared for a few minutes and briefly answered some questions from his lawyer.

«I have appeared before the judge and I have been able to confirm that I did not participate in that appointment for which I have been called today as a suspect,» Martín Aguirre said to the press upon leaving the Plaza de Castilla Courts. He added that he is «calm» because «everything will end in nothing because there is nothing».

Upon his arrival at the courts, the delegate was greeted by five people shouting «delegate, you’re scared» and «Sánchez resign». The judge of the Court of First Instance Number 41 of Madrid summoned him «for his apparent participation in the appointment of Cristina Álvarez to carry out private functions for Begoña Gómez, funded by the State Budgets, and therefore with public funds».

His indictment arises from a complaint filed by Vox — now included in the case against Begoña Gómez — focusing on the appointment and duties of La Moncloa advisor Cristina Álvarez to assist Pedro Sánchez’s wife, and the possible involvement of Martín Aguirre «as Secretary General of the Government Presidency in July 2021».

It is worth noting that the advisor to Gómez started working at Moncloa in the summer of 2018 when Martín Aguirre was the head of the technical cabinet of the Secretary General of the Presidency; he did not assume the position of Secretary General until July 2021. The Prosecutor’s Office has asked the Provincial Court of Madrid to annul the indictment.

This Wednesday, in his statements to the press, Martín Aguirre stated that he leaves his future in the case in the hands of the Provincial Court: «Everything is conditioned by the appeal we have filed before the Provincial Court, as we consider this summons incomprehensible, and therefore we hope for a resolution».

However, he indicated that he is «always available to collaborate with justice» and expressed his trust in the Spanish judicial system and the Rule of Law.

THE COORDINATOR OF MONCLOA PERSONNEL WILL BE SUMMONED AGAIN

In the context of this line of investigation related to the appointment of the Moncloa advisor, Raúl Díaz, who served as the Personnel Coordinator of Moncloa in 2018, also appeared on Wednesday — although as a witness.

The judge summoned him after the Minister of the Presidency, Justice, and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, identified him — at the request of Judge Peinado himself — during his testimony as a witness on April 16.

This Wednesday, Díaz attended the Plaza de Castilla Courts, where he was scheduled to appear at 12:30 p.m. According to the legal sources consulted, the Moncloa office has explained that it did not have the authority to hire temporary staff in the Presidency; it has also stated that Cristina Álvarez has fulfilled the duties corresponding to her role as advisor to Begoña Gómez.

However, it has been mentioned that the person does not know who drafted the Moncloa certificate detailing Álvarez’s functions as an advisor and has only indicated that they simply signed the document.

The same sources have indicated that the investigator has asked the witness to gather more information on this matter to continue with their statement, and has informed them that they will be called again as part of the investigation.

WITNESSES FROM GOOGLE, INDRA, AND TELEFÓNICA

As a result of the round of testimonies on Wednesday, four other witnesses have appeared before the judge to respond to another line of investigation in this case, related to the ‘software’ from the Complutense University of Madrid which, according to Hazte Oír, was allegedly misappropriated by Begoña Gómez.

Specifically, executives from Google, Indra, and Telefónica have testified to delve into the investments made by these companies in the ‘software’ of the Transformación Social Competitiva extraordinary chair directed by Sánchez’s wife.

The judge summoned them after executives and former high-ranking officials of these technology companies— who claimed they were not aware of the details of these investments due to their roles— provided their names and identified them as the employees who were knowledgeable.

Miguel Rodríguez Bueno, Google’s project manager, was the first to enter the courtroom. He was followed by Miguel Escassi, Google’s institutional and public policy manager.

Company sources have stated that their collaboration with the ‘Transforma TSC’ platform at Complutense was part of their «ongoing efforts to support Spain’s digital transformation,» with 150 projects with universities and institutions in the past five years.

Also, Luis Abril, head of Minsait—Indra’s subsidiary— and current executive advisor and general director of the technology company, testified on Wednesday. It is worth noting that both Google and Indra informed the judge in writing last year about their investments: the former contributed 110,000 euros to the ‘software’, while the latter contributed 128,442 euros.

Furthermore, Rosauro Varo, vice president of Telefónica Audiovisual Digital’s board, explained that his relationship with Pedro Sánchez’s wife is strictly professional. When asked who suggested that the company invest in the Complutense project, he stated that it was Gómez herself, according to sources present during the interrogation.

Following the proceedings on Wednesday, Vox’s legal representative, Marta Castro, stated in a press conference that these testimonies represent «another step closer to the corruption and influence peddling centered around Moncloa.»

Luis Pardo, lawyer for Iustitia Europa—one of the accusers in the case— stated that they are awaiting the judge’s decision on whether to continue summoning more witnesses, to make «new charges,» or to proceed with the trial to prosecute Begoña Gómez and all those implicated in the proceedings.
