Paloma García Romero, Jaime González Taboada y Borja Fanjul visitan la avenida de la Reina Victoria

The delegate of Works and Equipments, Paloma García Romero, announced this morning that the City Council of Madrid will start the remodeling works of the boulevard on Reina Victoria Avenue, located in the districts of Chamberí and Moncloa-Aravaca, this coming summer. The works, with an investment of 947,000 euros covering an area of 5,149 m2, will extend until the summer of 2026.

García Romero, accompanied by the councilors of Chamberí, Jaime González Taboada, and Moncloa-Aravaca, Borja Fanjul, explained that the intervention aims to regenerate the boulevard by renewing all pavements, creating leisure areas, and including playgrounds and biosaludable elements.

The project will maintain the characteristic historical longitudinal route of the boulevard, adding a zigzag path. Additionally, the two lateral strips of flower beds protecting the pedestrian space from traffic will be recovered. Furthermore, the monument to Vicente Aleixandre and the proximity to his former residence will be used to honor the poet by including six stanzas from his work La destrucción o el amor on the transversal paths.

The boulevard, with a length of 338 meters and a width of 12 meters, will have differentiated surfaces in different areas. The central promenade will have a continuous concrete pavement, while the zigzag paths, transversals, and leisure areas will have granite jabre. The surroundings of the crosswalks and the road connecting both parts of the boulevard will be paved with cobblestones, and the playgrounds and biosaludable areas will have rubber flooring. An steel plate will be used to delimit the pavements, and the perimeter edge of the boulevard will be formed by a granite curb.

More vegetation and new furniture

The project, preserving the existing trees, will be complemented with the planting of six new trees and over 7,200 bushes. Additionally, new urban furniture will be installed along with 13 high-efficiency LED luminaires to enhance the boulevard’s lighting, currently only illuminated from the avenue’s sidewalks.

The improvement of the boulevard will include a new traffic light pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Reina Victoria Avenue and General Ibáñez de Ibero Street, an initiative stemming from the participative budgets of Decide Madrid. /
