The vice mayor of Madrid, Inma Sanz, has inaugurated the III edition of the Javier Navarro Journalism Awards, organized by the Association for the Defense of the Brand (ANDEMA), which aim to recognize the work of journalism professionals and media in the dissemination and approach to public opinion of the contribution of industrial and intellectual property, in general, and brands, in particular, to the economy and society.
“A brand is similar to a name, just as a name identifies us to others in life, a brand identifies products and services to consumers in the market,” said Sanz, for whom “building a brand is not easy or cheap, it is the result of a commitment and that is why it is so harmful that the most successful ones are the ones that suffer counterfeiting and see their intellectual property endangered”.
Therefore, the vice mayor has insisted that “we all must commit to fighting this injustice” and has reaffirmed the City Council’s commitment to this issue, while congratulating the awardees for “their excellent work in explaining to us the new threats against intellectual property”.
Sanz has stated that “these new threats make it more important than ever for companies and institutions to know how to work together”. The City Council has been collaborating with ANDEMA since 2019, promoting awareness campaigns against counterfeiting, and the association verifies that the items seized by the Municipal Police are fake, a step prior to their destruction. Therefore, its contribution has great value for a city like Madrid, which has been part of the European network of the ‘Authenticities’ cooperation project since 2021. /
