El Ayuntamiento de Madrid realizará mejoras en 222 colegios municipales este verano

The Madrid City Council will allocate approximately 23 million euros (22,933,318) this summer for conservation and improvement works in public schools and municipal nurseries in the 21 districts of the city. This was detailed by the Vice Mayor of Madrid and Acting Mayor, Inma Sanz, during her visit to the Honduras Infant and Primary Education School in Villa de Vallecas.

Accompanied by the delegates of Economy, Innovation, and Finance, Engracia Hidalgo, and of Social Policies, Family, and Equality, José Fernández, as well as the councilor of Villa de Vallecas, Carlos González Pereira, among other district councilors, Sanz stated that thanks to this economic effort, carried out through the municipal boards, 222 educational centers will be intervened this summer to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities and introduce improvements related to energy efficiency, accessibility, or the installation of elements to protect against high temperatures such as awnings or pergolas.

At CEIP Honduras, where they visited this morning, works are planned for the replacement of the roof of a building in this educational complex located on Gavia Seca Street, and the replacement of wooden carpentry, lighting, and walls of the classrooms, with a cost of 307,000 euros and an estimated execution period of 90 days. The center has 60 students in kindergarten and 290 in primary, totaling 350 students.

Conservation and improvement works will be carried out in educational centers throughout the city. For example, at the Gigantes y Cabezudos Nursery School in Ciudad Lineal, renovations of awnings and electrical installation will be carried out, while at La Chulapona in Barajas, air conditioning will be installed in the kitchen and multisensory room, as well as wooden teepees in the playgrounds to enhance play possibilities, among other improvements.

Regarding schools, some examples of interventions include repairing roof eaves with thermal insulation installation at CEIP Emilia Pardo Bazán in Centro; replacing doors and waterproofing the terrace at Pío XII in Tetuán; improving accessibility and replacing LED-type low-consumption luminaires at Colegio Alhambra in Fuencarral-El Pardo; conditioning outdoor green areas at Manuel Bartolomé Cossío Center in Latina; installing trees and shade sails at the entrance to the playground of CEIP Concepción Arenal in Carabanchel; refurbishing the roof at the Joan Miró Special Education Center in Usera; acoustic comfort improvements and patio interventions at Eduardo Rojo School in Puente de Vallecas; general painting in the infant building and common areas at Cristóbal Colón School in Villaverde; installing an elevator at the Patriarca Obispo Eijo y Garay Center in Chamartín, or adapting the sports court and children’s area at CEIP Carmen Cabezuelo in San Blas-Canillejas, among many others.

The Vice Mayor and Acting Mayor highlighted that this is a new record high in the amount allocated to these works, which reached 22.4 million in 2024. With this new investment, the City Council has allocated 103 million euros to this area since 2019. These figures demonstrate that schools are a priority investment line for this Government team.

Sanz, who stated that «taking care of schools is not just about maintaining and preserving them, but also improving them,» thanked «the district councilors and their teams for turning this investment effort into concrete improvements.» For Sanz, «these school reforms are as important as any major construction project.»

The Villa de Vallecas district, where the event was held, is investing nearly one million euros (978,958 euros) this summer in improvement and maintenance works in four of its centers. In addition to CEIP Honduras, the district’s municipal board is carrying out works at the Agustín Rodríguez Sahagún, Blas de Otero, and Juan Gris Infant and Primary Education Schools.

In terms of investment, Puente de Vallecas is the district that allocates the most money in 2025 for these maintenance and improvement works, with 2.7 million euros. In the districts of Arganzuela, Carabanchel, Centro, Ciudad Lineal, Fuencarral-El Pardo, Latina, Moratalaz, and San Blas-Canillejas, the investment also exceeds one million euros.

«It is noteworthy that the annual amount invested continues to grow each year, with the aim of ensuring that the prosperity experienced by Madrid also reaches each of our city’s schools and other educational centers,» Sanz concluded. /
