El Ayuntamiento de Madrid apoya con 1,5 millones a Hijas de la Caridad

The Board of Governors has agreed today to grant a nominative subsidy to the Social Foundation Daughters of Charity to co-finance its various social support projects for individuals and families in situations of social exclusion in the city in 2025. As reported by the deputy mayor and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, the Madrid City Council will contribute 1.5 million euros so that the organization can continue to develop its programs of reception, accommodation, psychosocial rehabilitation, and employment promotion that promote the socio-labor integration of users.

Thanks to the agreement between the Madrid City Council and the foundation, the basic needs of food, accommodation, or transportation for vulnerable individuals are covered, along with emotional support and job training to help them regain their autonomy. Additionally, they are provided access to public social protection services of an educational and healthcare nature, as well as information and support services to carry out procedures such as registration. For migrants, support is provided to facilitate their integration into the city by helping them overcome challenges associated with the migration process such as language barriers, administrative status, or labor market entry.

Four lines of action

The program consists of four lines of action. Firstly, the activity of the Martinez Campos dining hall. With the capacity to distribute over 95,000 meals annually, this resource not only provides food but also offers mediation and counseling services. Secondly, the Social Foundation Daughters of Charity has two day centers, Vicente de Paúl and Catalina Labouré, which provide daily care to 150 individuals, engaging them in a process of social and labor integration through various workshops and activities.

Thanks to the municipal contribution, the operation of two accommodation facilities that serve as a residential alternative for the homeless and families at risk of exclusion is also ensured. On one hand, the Vicente de Paúl Reception Center, a mixed accommodation facility with a capacity for 14 individuals that meets the needs for overnight stays and meals. On the other hand, 19 social support apartments with 87 spots for men, women, and families.

Furthermore, the subsidy will allow for the continuation of the social and labor integration itineraries of the foundation integrated into the day centers Vicente de Paúl and Catalina Labouré, and the Marillac Social Center. Specifically, it is expected to assist 72 individuals per month, offering assistance in job search and promoting self-esteem and autonomy.

Over 3,400 users in 2024

The total budget for the projects of the Social Foundation Daughters of Charity covered by the agreement amounts to 1.9 million euros. The Area of Social Policies, Family, and Equality contributes 1.5 million, making the municipal funding 78%. Through this collaboration, the City Council complements the actions of the centers and programs integrated into the Municipal Homeless Assistance Network.

The City Council has granted direct subsidies to the organization with the same amount and purpose in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Last year, over 3,400 individuals benefited from its programs: 1,873 in the social dining hall, 1,216 in the day centers, 40 in reception centers, 126 in social support apartments, and 226 in social and labor integration itineraries. More than 280 individuals and eight families achieved autonomy. /
