Fernández, during the tree planting event at the Municipal Nursery School Snowman, this Friday, on the occasion of the International Day of Life
The delegate for Social Policies, Family, and Equality, José Fernández, accompanied by the councilor of Vicálvaro, Ángel Ramos, participated today in a tree planting event at the Municipal Nursery School Snowman, a symbolic action framed within the celebration by the Madrid City Council of the International Day of Life, commemorated every March 25th.
With this initiative, which intertwines the growth of plants and the students at the center, the emotional bond of children with nature and respect for the environment is promoted. Therefore, the students themselves, along with their parents and educators, planted specimens of liquidambar and pear species in the garden patio of the school.
This activity is directly linked to the Birth and Conciliation Promotion Plan of the City of Madrid 2024-2029, which highlights as a fundamental aspect to promote births and protect maternity and paternity that the city, in its spatial dimension, is child-friendly and family-friendly. In fact, one of the objectives outlined in the Plan is to carry out environmental actions that promote the health and well-being of families, an improvement in the environment that will be contributed to by the tree planting.
Also, on the occasion of the International Day of Life, informative talks have been held this week around the theme ‘Welcome to life’ in the support services for child rearing at Casa Grande, integrated into the eight family support centers (CAF) of the Madrid City Council. These activities have provided parents with a space to learn to adapt to the arrival of a child, acquire strategies to assume their new role, and address any doubts that may arise regarding their parental responsibilities. Thus, guided by professionals, they have obtained practical tools to strengthen the bond with their children before and after birth.
Through the Birth and Conciliation Promotion Plan, the Madrid City Council is reinforcing resources aimed at supporting families during the child-rearing process. In December 2024, the eighth family support center was inaugurated in Carabanchel, a facility specialized in providing psychosocial care and preventing and resolving difficulties during the performance of parental functions.
That same month, the Casa Grande service was also expanded, a shared play and relationship space that enhances emotional attachment and secure attachment between parents and children. Thus, it went from being offered in four centers to eight, after its integration into the CAF, and expanded the age range of the children served, previously from 0 to 3 and now established between 0 to 6 years. To implement these improvements, the management contract of the CAF and Casa Grande was increased from 6.4 to 7.2 million euros.
Birth and Conciliation Promotion Plan
The Birth and Conciliation Promotion Plan 2024-2029 guides municipal policy in the protection of maternity and paternity, promotion of births, and encouragement of balancing personal and work life for families with the ultimate goal of halting demographic aging and making Madrid the best city to grow up in.
Endowed with 1.275 billion euros to implement 50 measures, it includes various initiatives for life, including socio-health support actions for pregnant women or maternal-child health groups with pre and postpartum workshops. It also includes grants for family and childhood projects, support for women with family responsibilities and unemployed youth, awareness-raising in companies, or the creation of a new information and guidance service for families of children diagnosed with a disability during pregnancy or the first four years.
Furthermore, the plan includes direct aid for childbirth (500, 750, and 1,000 euros), the construction of five new municipal nursery schools, and doubling the budget allocated to the child grant to reach a figure of 8 million euros. It also aims to incentivize companies that implement reconciliation measures through a quality seal and tax incentives, as well as reserve housing promoted by EMVS Madrid for families with children under one year old. /
