The Madrid City Council and the Casa de Alba Foundation have formalized an agreement that will allow citizens to enjoy the Flamboyant. Joana Vasconcelos exhibition at the Palacio de Liria for free every Monday, excluding holidays, at 10:00 am until full capacity is reached. With this exhibition, which can be visited until July 31st, the Lisbon artist has intervened in the salons and gardens of the iconic palace.
Thanks to the support of the City Council, every Monday at 12:00 pm, free tickets will be made available for the following Monday. They will be exclusively available through the Palacio de Liria website, following the same procedure as for the general ticket purchase. A maximum of two tickets per person can be reserved until the capacity of the 10:00 am visit, which is 40 visitors, is reached. The possibility of this reservation through the website will be available only until the visit quota is full.
The delegate for Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, states that «with this agreement, we open up to the citizens, free of charge, one of the most anticipated exhibitions in Madrid,» and that «Vasconcelos’ intervention allows us to enjoy the spaces of the Palacio de Liria from a contemporary perspective.»
A fusion of contemporary art and historical heritage
The Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, one of the most prominent creators in the contemporary art scene, transforms the salons and gardens of the Palacio de Liria into a visual spectacle of contemporary art that interacts with one of the most relevant private historical-artistic collections in the world, which includes pieces by artists such as Velázquez, Goya, Rubens, Titian, or Murillo.
It is the first time that Joana Vasconcelos has brought her works to a grand inhabited palace, which will infuse the exhibition with a special dialogue between her works and this space. The exhibition will also be an opportunity to visit less frequented corners like the palace gardens, usually closed to the public, where visitors can enjoy recent creations like Valkyrie Thyra, along with iconic works like Marylin or Carmen. /
