21 DISTRICTS, the cultural revitalization program of the Area of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the City Council of Madrid, proposes a diverse cultural agenda in different districts of the city, consisting of a cultural encounter, movement, cinema, a community dance workshop, and a circus show.
On June 2nd, at 8:00 pm, the Faro de Moncloa (Moncloa-Aravaca) will host a new edition of the Charlas con Altura cycle featuring Cristian Alarcón, acclaimed writer, winner of the Alfaguara Novel Prize in 2022 for El tercer paraíso, journalist, and director of Anfibia Magazine. Alarcón will share insights on ‘cyborg masculinities’ and explore the ideas surrounding the relationship between science fiction and capitalism proposed by writer Michel Nieva, and the prevalence of hegemonic masculinities in shaping an ideal of power.
From June 2nd to 14th, at 6:00 pm, the collective Mucha Muchacha will present Seré épica o no seré at the Intergenerational Center Ouka Leele (Arganzuela), a project of community, social, and educational dance that invites reflection on how we inhabit the world. An artistic coexistence, creating a creative context to investigate and experiment with the creative potential of a community.
On June 6th, at 6:00 pm, the screening África en Cinecicleta will arrive at the Youth Center El Sitio de mi Recreo (Puente de Vallecas) with its unique pedal-powered energy system, which will generate power for a motor/generator installed on a simple stationary bike. At 8:15 pm, the terrace of the Cultural Center Casa de Vacas (Retiro) will host the digital dance Digi_Jam. Alejandro Rodríguez and Sarita Herrera, with Pedagogías Invisibles, will organize an open dance floor where participants can choose to become data or programmers.
Finally, on June 8th at 12:00 pm, you can enjoy the interactive musical experience of directing the Ritornello Orchestra at the exterior of the Cultural Center La Vaguada (Fuencarral-El Pardo). And at 8:00 pm, the company Trocos Lucos will bring the circus show Tartana to Parque de Pradolongo (Usera) for all audiences, featuring high-altitude acrobatics and street-level humor. A lighthearted proposal with a high technical level in the main circus techniques: Korean see-saw and hand balancing.
Puppets, trapeze, and theater for the upcoming week
The company Sputniks will offer trapeze, theater, and puppetry with a social theme in Usera on June 12th, as part of the festivities in Pradolongo, and on the 13th in Moratalaz, within the district’s celebrations, with Cuatro paredes y un techo. The play emerges from years of visits to slums and refugee camps, focusing on the European response to current migration conflicts. /
