The Parla City Council will once again commemorate World Poetry Day on March 21st with a variety of activities, including a temporary exhibition of favorite verses from residents. Whether classic or contemporary, intimate or humorous, revolutionary or romantic, all poems are welcome, and the public can submit them via email or in person from March 6th to the 18th.
Original poems or those by any author can be submitted until March 18th
“My-Our Favorite Poem” is the title of the call to action by the City Council’s Department of Culture, inviting the community to participate in World Poetry Day celebrations.
As Culture Councillor Gema García Torres explains, “Once again, Parla joins in this celebration, and we have organized various activities that promote and highlight this literary genre so closely tied to human nature, helping us express ideas, feelings, and stories.”
“It is worth noting, as is customary and traditional, the temporary poetic installation around the House of Culture. We ask the community to share their favorite poems or creations with us to adorn Parla with rhymes and verses.”
The objective of the call is to create a temporary exhibition of poems, favorites from residents, including those penned by them. Verses can be submitted from March 6th to the 18th via email to cultura@ayuntamientoparla.es or physically deposited in designated ballot boxes at municipal buildings such as the Isaac Albéniz and Gloria Fuertes municipal libraries, the Dulce Chacón center, the Isaac Albéniz Municipal Dance School, the Pedro Zerolo Youth House, and the House of Culture.
All poems, verses, and rhymes, signed by authors or residents, will be displayed outside the House of Culture on March 21st, coinciding with Poetry Day. This activity is just one of many designed to pay tribute to this art form.
As part of an extensive program of Poetry Tribute activities
The program includes the screening of “Forgotten Women” as part of the Intercultural AFÍN film series, performances of “To Glory with Gloria Fuertes” and “The Miracles of Our Lady. An extensive cultural program also features an invitation to explore “The Poetry Walk” in the Park of the Communities of Spain, complemented by the campaign supporting local businesses “Poetry Goes Shopping,” promoted by the Business Initiatives Center.
Gema García Torres elaborates, “Our local businesses, our neighborhood shops, will also join in by decorating their storefronts with poetic themes. With many more activities in store, I encourage the residents of Parla to check out the program and mark their calendars.”
Commercial establishments interested in showcasing their storefronts or interiors decorated with poems from March 17th to the 22nd can still register until Friday March 7th, by requesting and submitting a completed and signed registration form by the legal representative to cie-empresas@ayuntamientoparla.es.
