Construcción del nuevo centro de salud mental en Alcobendas.

The demand for a new mental health center in Alcobendas has been a constant for over a decade by residents, professionals, and associations. The Alcobendas City Council has taken a significant step towards making this center a reality by offering a plot of land to the Community of Madrid for its construction. The goal is to provide a definitive solution to the overcrowding of the current Miraflores Mental Health Center, located in Alcobendas, and to meet the growing demand for specialized care in the northern area of Madrid. The new center would improve healthcare services and enable the development of the extensive network of mental health programs promoted by the Community of Madrid.

Commitment of the municipal government
Since taking office, the Mayor of Alcobendas, Rocío García, has shown her commitment to this cause by conveying the urgent need for this healthcare facility to the Community of Madrid. The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, welcomed the mayor’s proposal, and in April 2024, during an Extraordinary Government Council held in Alcobendas, Ayuso expressed interest in the project and willingness to study its feasibility.

A plot in the North District of the city
In January 2024, the City Council offered the Community of Madrid three municipal plots to house the future center. After technical analysis, plot UP51, located in Fuente Lucha on Avenida de Pablo Iglesias, number 5, next to the Miguel Delibes Popular University, was selected as the most suitable for construction. This plot has an area of 2,900 square meters and a value of 2,762,250 euros.

The new center will focus on the specialties of psychiatry, psychology, and emotional health. It will be affiliated with the Infanta Sofía Hospital and would address the need to definitively tackle the issues of space, habitability, and accessibility at the Miraflores Health Center, problems that have been increasing with the considerable rise in healthcare activity.

The Corporation’s Plenary will discuss the transfer of ownership of the mentioned plot to the Community of Madrid during the Ordinary Session scheduled for Thursday, May 29. With the approval of the transfer of the municipal plot to the Community of Madrid by the Plenary, Alcobendas moves closer to a long-awaited milestone for its residents and also for the citizens of northern Madrid: having a modern and suitable mental health center to meet current needs.
