The delegate of Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero, accompanied by the councilor of Ciudad Lineal, Nadia Álvarez, visited this morning the consolidation works of the pedestrianization of Calle de los Misterios between Juan Pérez de Zúñiga and José del Hierro streets. The project, which represents an investment of 1.3 million euros, also includes the reorganization of Calle del Marqués de Pico Velasco, perpendicular to Calle de los Misterios, between Misterios and Arturo Soria.
The works, which will be completed by early summer, include renovation and adaptation of pavements, reorganization of intersections, construction of new pedestrian crossings, and elimination of architectural barriers, among others. In total, the intervention covers an area of 7,800 m².
The project aims to improve safety at the intersections of Calle de los Misterios with the transverse streets, providing them with raised crossings at their junction. All these crossings will have the corresponding signage and tactile pavement to guide visually impaired people to cross safely without any interference with vehicles accessing the driveways of Calle de los Misterios.
The intervention on Calle de los Misterios establishes a single cobblestone platform for the entire section and incorporates alignment trees on one side, for which elongated tree pits have been designed. In this regard, the project includes the planting of 41 new trees and over 1,500 shrubs.
In Calle del Marqués de Pico Velasco (between Misterios and Arturo Soria), to address the lack of accessibility on the north sidewalk, the direction of parking spaces is modified, placing them in a line instead of in rows as they were before, and doing the opposite on the south sidewalk. Additionally, both sidewalks are repaved on this street, existing pedestrian crossings are adapted to regulations, and two new ones are created.
The works also impact the surroundings of the Santa María del Carmen and Stella Maris schools, where accessibility to both centers is improved. Furthermore, the intervention involves replacing the existing public lighting with high-energy efficiency LED lighting and renewing urban furniture.
