Celebración del Día Internacional del Circo en el Teatro Circo Price

Today, the Teatro Circo Price celebrates the International Circus Day with a special program that pays homage to this ancient art, combining tradition, humor, music, and new forms of scenic expression. The delegate of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, has highlighted that «on International Circus Day, we are especially proud to have Price among the municipal spaces, which always surprises with a program as diverse as the art of the circus itself.»

Among the highlighted proposals is Pagagnini, the acclaimed ‘dis-concert’ by the Yllana company, offering an explosive fusion of classical music and clown. The celebration continues with Circalizadas, a transversal look at the circus universe that includes cinema, theater, and literature. Tomorrow will premiere Hop!, an original theatrical tour through the corners of the Price, which will be held one Sunday a month, and until tomorrow, in collaboration with Cineteca Madrid, emblematic films will be screened accompanied by discussions with specialists and artists.

In the words of the director of the Teatro Circo Price, Aránzazu Riosalido, «the circus is a living scenic art, in which its artists offer the best show to the public to receive smiles and applause for their effort, perseverance, and self-determination.» She also added that «International Circus Day celebrates the values of the circus artist. Values necessary for society to prosper.»

On Monday, April 21, the Ateneo de Madrid will host, in collaboration with the Teatro Circo Price, a theatrical interview with Thomas Price — portrayed by Pepe Viyuela — and a collective reading of the Biography of the Circus, by Jaime de Armiñán. In addition, viewers who come to the Madrid circus can visit the mural designed by the illustrator Ángel Idígoras and carried out by the muralist Lalone, as well as the new illustrations on its facade, also by Idígoras, dedicated to the circus.

As a grand finale, from April 26 to May 1, the Australian company CiRCA presents Duck Pond, a spectacular circus reinterpretation of Swan Lake.

The Teatro Circo Price thus becomes the epicenter of the circus in Madrid, celebrating its diversity, its history, and its power to move. /
