Torrejón de Ardoz celebrated the Tree Day by planting 150 trees in Zarzuela Park with the participation of 761 students from the city. The mayor, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, and the councilor of the Environment, Esperanza Fernández de Mesa, were present at this planting, with which the City Council initiates the spring reforestation campaign in the streets and parks of the city, as part of the Reforestation Plan for the 2023-2027 term, which aims to plant 10,000 new trees in the city, with 3,871 specimens already planted.
Torrejón de Ardoz, March 28, 2025. Each school has planted an average of 10 trees in different areas of the park. Gardeners from the City Council were present to help, guide, and explain to the students the importance of the planting they were carrying out.
The tree mass in public areas and numerous parks has also been reinforced to produce more oxygen and shade during the summer months. The tree species planted in this urban reforestation include: Olive, Celtis, Walnut, Sweetgum, Hornbeam, Birch, Cypress, Maple, Robinia, Mulberry, Plane trees, Privet, Flowering Apple, Holly, Ash, Pear, Photinia, and palm trees, among others.
«This new tree planting and those we will carry out in the coming years will improve the city’s air quality and contribute to the fight against climate change, applying the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda,» said Mayor Alejandro Navarro Prieto.
Additionally, the Environmental Councilor added, «The educational aspect of this planting, with the participation of our students, is very important because it represents a significant step in environmental education, raising awareness among the youngest about environmental care and contributing to improving the air quality we breathe in Torrejón de Ardoz.»
