CCOO warns the left that «if it remains fragmented» it will be «very difficult» to have another government in the Community of Madrid

Warning of «a discourse of hatred» in the region and deems it «impossible» to talk about the problems «that interest the people of Madrid»

The General Secretary of CC.OO Madrid, Paloma López, has warned the left that «if it remains fragmented,» another government in the Community will be «very difficult» and has stated that «there is a discourse of hatred» in the region, which is in «a situation of absolute polarization.»

This was expressed in an interview with Europa Press after her re-election as general secretary with 91.2% of the votes at the 13th Congress of the Madrid union, an event that brought together 278 delegates representing the 147,000 members.

«It is necessary for the left to make a determined commitment. If it considers that its commitment is to remain fragmented or in issues that are more partisan than collective interests and general interests, it will be very difficult for another type of government to exist in the Community of Madrid,» she stated.

López has stated that the region «permanently lives in a situation of absolute polarization against immigrants, the poor, and the most vulnerable groups» and has emphasized that the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso «instead of doing politics» for the Community, «only opposes the Government of Spain.»

«Every day we see how in the Assembly of Madrid there is a permanent situation of polarization that hinders and complicates peaceful coexistence frameworks where you can develop your approaches, alternatives, and proposals,» she pointed out.

The General Secretary of CC.OO Madrid has insisted that «there is a discourse of confrontation between the different groups» and has stressed that «it is impossible to talk about the problems and things that truly interest the people of Madrid.»

URGES MADRID RESIDENTS TO «VOICE THEIR WEARINESS»

On the other hand, López has called on Madrid residents to «voice their weariness» and has defended that the regional government «seeks to alienate the population as a whole, especially workers.»

«The solution to problems always comes from politics, not individualism or privatizations or corporate elements. Advancing in societies comes precisely from a politics that places people at the center of actions,» she added.

She also asserted that Ayuso and «her advisors» seek «alienation from politics,» as well as «polarization to disengage people and make them think that politics serves no purpose in promoting individualism.»

«People are only saved through collective action. Quality public services, quality public or private jobs, or a society based on mutual support or the ability to do things collectively save you,» she indicated.

The General Secretary of CC.OO Madrid also emphasized that she «misses» a right-wing that «had its economic levels, but also had a social perspective and aimed to achieve the greatest possible benefits.»

«NO DIALOGUE» WITH THE COMMUNITY

Asked about the relationship with the Community of Madrid, López indicated that the president «only sent them a congratulatory letter» that they will respond to soon, but lamented that this has been «the only contact» they have had so far.

Regarding the assessment halfway through the term, she emphasized that the union «does not have a positive assessment,» adding that there is a greater deterioration of public services, a lack of social dialogue, and no progress in changing the production model to generate quality jobs.

«The industrial fabric is being destroyed, and there is an increasing volume of privatizations. There is no indication that there will be a difference in approach until the regional elections. It seems that this is the direction and the path it will take, but we also have to see how the situation is on the ground,» she pointed out.

The General Secretary of CC.OO Madrid emphasized that «we need to see how» the situation in nursing homes evolves after a judge has charged two former high-ranking officials of the regional government for the protocols implemented during the pandemic.

«The Presidency of the Community will have to consider if in two years it wants to continue down this path of privatizations, deterioration of the production fabric, and transfers to the private sector. If it wants to continue down this path, social pressure will also increase,» she warned.
