When its first year of validity is fulfilled, the municipal government presents a «very positive» balance of the Stability and Excellence Political Agreement of Alcobendas between the Popular Party and Future Citizens, highlighting that more than 80% of the commitments made are already underway: 50% executed and 30% in progress.
This agreement has ensured a stable conservative and liberal majority in the city government, which has allowed the timely approval of municipal budgets and public ordinances and the approval of 100% of plenary votes.
The spokesperson for the municipal government, Marta Martín, has highlighted in this first year «the loyalty and good understanding with the plenary partner, former mayor Aitor Retolaza,» and added that «the farsightedness and consensus attitude is allowing the city to be governed with an absolute majority and agility, prioritizing good economic management, quality of life, and freedom for the residents of Alcobendas.» For his part, the spokesperson for Future Citizens, Aitor Retolaza, has emphasized the agreement, «which has a clear objective: to guarantee political stability to promote long-lasting and long-term projects that make a city and respond to the real demands of residents.»
The ‘Stability and Excellence Political Agreement of Alcobendas’ focuses on five strategic axes:
-Health commitment
The municipal government has promoted the installation of a new general hospital, to be built in the Valdelacasa Business Park, and the city’s cardioprotection, with an investment of €66,000 to incorporate defibrillators in police and emergency vehicles and public spaces.
The government agreement has strengthened our city’s commitment to the mental health and emotional well-being of its citizens. The City Council and the Community of Madrid are promoting the creation of a new mental health center.
-Record improvements in mobility and parking
With over €20 million in investments, the connection branch from Arroyo de la Vega to the A-1 highway via Avenida de la Transición Española is operational, and the largest road resurfacing operation in local history has begun, renewing one hundred streets. Additionally, this summer, the planned investments for years by other municipal governments in the streets Iris and Hiedra in El Soto de la Moraleja, and in Paseo de la Marquesa Viuda de Aldama in La Moraleja will finally be carried out.
Furthermore, the modification of the ORA zone has been approved and implemented, and work is underway on a new parking facility in Bulevar Salvador Allende. The project to modernize the industrial estate and neighboring business spaces through the creation of Bulevar Nuevo Norte on M-603 has been finalized, with construction set to begin in 2026.
-Economic leadership
Alcobendas ranks as the second city in Spain in terms of multinational billing volume, maintaining an unemployment rate below 6% and record numbers of Social Security affiliates.
The municipal government upholds and fulfills commitments that ensure low tax pressure and attract investments.
-Commitment to transparency
As a sign of transparency resulting from the political agreement, the municipal government handed over the presidency of the Special Contract Oversight Commission to the Future Citizens spokesperson for Alcobendas, Aitor Retolaza, who is not part of the government. The Rules of Procedure of the Plenary have been reformed to strengthen the autonomy of groups represented in the City Council.
-‘European City of Sport’
The City Council has promoted initiatives such as scholarships for elite athletes, the School Olympics, the Special Olympics for people with disabilities, and a social program to ensure that no young person in Alcobendas is deprived of participating in sports for economic reasons, in addition to investments to improve security and protection in sports facilities.
