The general coordinator of the City Council, Inmaculada Sánchez-Cervera, and the dean of the College of Civil Engineers, Canals, and Ports of Madrid, María Dolores Esteban, signed a collaboration agreement this morning to promote and disseminate mediation as an alternative method of conflict resolution.
This agreement will be carried out through projects, programs, and activities to promote mediation and is part of the general collaboration protocol that both entities agreed upon on February 11, which included the purpose of «promoting mediation and arbitration as alternative means of conflict resolution, making Madrid an international reference in this field.»
Both entities are committed to mediation. On the one hand, the City Council provides a service to the public that offers an independent and neutral mediator to resolve disputes with the Administration or with other citizens in municipal matters. In 2024, the Mediation Office handled 342 cases, of which 130 resulted in formal mediation processes. The high success rate of this method is evidenced by the fact that 71 out of 84 cases closed were resolved satisfactorily.
On the other hand, the College of Civil Engineers, Canals, and Ports has its own mediation institution, MediaCAMINOS, which provides specific training to its members in the field and the opportunity to act as mediators in cases related to engineering and construction.
With this new agreement, both entities will exchange experiences in the implementation of mediation and promote this method among professionals and citizens, highlighting the City Council of Madrid’s great interest in innovation and excellence in its services and procedures. /
