The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the delegate of Social Policies, Families, and Equality, José Fernández; the councilor in charge of Sports, Sonia Cea, and the councilors of Chamartín, Yolanda Estrada, and Chamberí, Jaime González Taboada, participated this morning in the presentation of the XII edition of the Madrid Race Against Cancer organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), along with its president in Madrid, Jaime Salaberri. On Sunday, March 30, a green tide will once again flood the Paseo de la Castellana.
Almeida encouraged the people of Madrid to surpass the challenge of the 27,000 participants that AECC has set for this charity race, which in the last edition managed to reach 23,000 people, «thus filling the streets with hope and support to fight against this cruel disease, which affects more and more people.» The mayor emphasized that «every small gesture counts in the fight against cancer and contributes to winning a battle,» therefore «we must fill our lives with small gestures like participating in this race» to collaborate with AECC «in prevention, support, and research.»
As in previous years, the route will pass through Paseo de Recoletos and the Castellana with two options of 4.5 km (which can be done by running or walking) and 10 km (designed for advanced runners). In addition, there will be children’s races at the Family Activities Space in Plaza de Colón, where children aged 4 to 12 can participate.
AECC is a non-profit association founded in 1953 that integrates patients, families, volunteers, and professionals, working together to improve the lives of people affected by this disease. Their goal for 2030 is to achieve a 70% survival rate, for which they plan to invest over 143 million euros, the largest in their history, for the development of over 750 projects involving 1,500 researchers in this field. /
